150mg to 200mg

Today I upped my own dose from 150mg to 200mg I've been on sertraline 150mg for over 7 weeks now the only thing it has done is stopped me from panicking. I was on 50mg for a week then 100mg for 3 weeks. I hate my doctors they are so ignorant towards mental health. I changed doctors in October and my first appointment was with a female doctor who couldn't understand why I was so anxious and to just enjoy life she might as well of laughed in my face! 2nd appointment before Christmas I seen a different doctor who still couldn't understand why I was anxious too! He said 'I get anxiety about which coat to wear when the weather is bad and I get anxiety when....etc. I was in fostercare and had a foster father who is a paedophile and told me to put these memories in a box at the back of my head and leave it there! ( this is what I do anyway and my pyschartrist said I need to unlock these memories so my depersonalisation will fade away because I've had dp for 12 years non break from it what so ever ) anyway I've had my moan about ignorant doctors and hopefully the 200mg will be better for me. I upped my own dose 7 weeks ago and had to see a doctor before Christmas to tell him i had done it or I wouldn't of had enough sertraline for over Christmas 😊

Pamela, any doctor who is basically saying “Get over it” is no doctor!

My male psychologist is amazing and would never say that. My female Doctor is incredible and would not dream of saying that!

How dare they say that to you. It makes me angry. There are great people to talk to out there, whether they be a psychologist, psychiatrist or other counselling. I would aske around for a good one. Perhaps even Google one.

7 weeks, in my opinion, is not long enough to see a real difference, no matter the dose. On 200mg, at around 10 to 12 weeks is when I saw a substantial improvement for my anxiety. And at 20 weeks I was much, much better.

    Are you in the UK?

Have you seen a psychiatrist or had any counselling? I’ve found doctors fairly ignorant about mental health, particularly when it comes to medication. The medication will help your symptoms but you probably also need to look at the underlying cause, ie your traumatic childhood. It’s not surprising you have difficulties with what you’ve been through and for your doctor to dismiss that makes me very angry. Have you asked for a referral to a psychiatrist? You can request it if you think you need it. I really hope and pray you get the help you need xx
