16 weeks post op THR and still in pain

Feeling a bit down thought I would be much better by Now . Need to walk with a stick and thigh feels heavy and sore. Do not  see surgeon until Nov. Is more exercise the answer or more rest?  Don't know what to do for the best. Be good to know others opinions.

Do you mean "sore" or "pain"? You say both! At 16 weeks quite a few people still feel sore - that's to be expected as  you  are still recovering for  months yet. I wouldn't really worry about that much - are toy keeping upon your exercises, because a lot of people don't, and you need to!

If you mean pain, can you described it and how bad it is? It could just be that this is your journey - everyone recovers at a current rate and in different ways. But if you can give us a better idea of the problem, advice is a bit easier!

Yes me too Wyn...heavy and sore .How far in are you? I ma nearly 6 months...having private massage and more NHS physio. The latter is because I insisted on seeing surgeon before the alloted time.If your in UK ring his secretary and ask for earlier date. They test for infection first of all.Thing is the muscle people say it is up to a year...the surgeon says by now should be pain free. So very many conflicting versions....I feel it  will be a year. Thigh sore, stiff, heavy, groin pain...your not alone kiddo xxx

I don't know Wynne, only just home.  My thigh is much bigger than the other and will wait to see how it gets on, the. I might have something useful to add.

    Hi Wynn,

Sorry to hear that you are feeling down.  When did you get released from phyical therapy?  It sounds as though you might need to go back for a few visits to get you back on track.  I personally found the key to a quick recovery was moderate exercise each day, ice packs and Ibuprofen as needed for pain and to help reduce inflamation.  By 16 weeks, you should try heat (helps losen up muscles) prior to exercise and then ice packs afterward with your leg elevated.

If the pain persists, I'd make an appointment to see the doctor.

Best of luck, and keep us posted!

I can't speak for other people but for me, I needed to take couple of weeks

off from all physical therapy to give my body time to heal.   I say don't push yourself and take pain meds as needed.  I'm a month and a half post op and still use

the walker.  We have to progress at our own pace.  Let us know how you progress.
