hi i’m 16 and i’ll get flat stools every now and then that will kind of scare me but then the next day i’ll have a normal thicker sized stool, that still isn’t perfectly round but isn’t completely flat like the others. i don’t have any blood and my stool is usually medium to dark brown. should i be concerned?

Blood in stools, unintended weight loss, and anemia are the bigger concerns. At your age the most I would suspect is IBD, though that usually comes with blood in stool and abdominal pain. I don't think it is anything to worry about.

If stools were flat because of a partial blockage from a tumor then they would always be flat.. not flat then return to normal. No I would not be worried.

yes like i said, for a few days they’ll just go very thin and flat, then they’ll return to thick regular stools. is it just what i eat i’m assuming?

It could also be what you are eating (eating bulky foods would bulk up stools)-no bulky food and stools are thin!

If they are not permanently stringy-agree with other posters here!

EVEN BLOOD IN YOUR STOOLS IS UNLIKELY TO BE CANCER AT YOUR AGE, and one can have a positive reading for a multitude of reasons, some of which may not even be known - When risk factor are low incidence is low, and it may be that should risk factors be low enough that bowel cancer even becomes impossible.  There are likely a group of people being obliged to regular colonoscopy that fall into this impossible group, will never have a polyp and will never have cancer, but for whatever reason always show positive for blood.

IDEALLY, become a vegetarian, and eat loads of porridge, fruit, and vegetables for a healthier life.  If stools are over firm drink some prune juice. Aim for at least twenty different fruits and vegetables daily, for they all have their own unique benefits, and are all anti cancer.  Avoid carrots if you smoke.  Obviously though, do n`t smoke.

Colson I'm not a health care professional but if you aren't losing weight for no reason no blood no alternating bowel habits no pain I don't think you have cause to worry but a doctor would be best to give you answers

And alternating bowel habits can simply be as consequence to an alternating diet. I have gleamed most of my information through direct communications with that specific professor whom over sees early detection of bowel cancer for the Uk.  We are currently awaiting the findings of a research team into the extent to which antioxidants in the diet may benefit.  I myself was tested positive via early detection but at the top level still considered extremely low risk, extremely low risk because my risk factors are extremely low risk - Should blood be detected you are not at higher risk than before, so, whilst it should be investigated further there remains little to worry about should your risk factors be very low, to zero.

for the past 3 nights i’ve had these small stools, tonight’s wasn’t rlly flat it was just kind of stingy looking. but a week ago they were atleast a good inch thick? is it just the stuff i eat??

Are you drinking loads, and does your diet mainly comprise of grains, vegetables, and fruits? - Perhaps there is an obstruction, so perhaps you consume too much protein, or perhaps when you consume protein you do n`t consume with it sufficient of the right foods to normalize the stool.  I`b begin with a glass of prune juice, morning and night, and leave high protein sources out from the diet for at least a week.  Start the day with prune juice, porridge, and added whole fruit.

could it be that i have hemorrhoids? i sometimes will have a hard stool that hurts coming out and will have a tiny tiny bit of blood on the toilet paper but none in my stool.

Sounds like the anus has been scratched by passing food, likely there is seed in your diet.?  Blood on the outside of the stool tells you that the problem is located near the mouth.  When you insert a finger it should feel sore.  There are inserts which aid the healing, first take it to your nurse, or GP.
