16yo concerns

Hello. I’m a 16 years old girl and there are a few things I cant really find on the internet and I wanted to ask you guys.

Today, I was sitting on the couch when my cat vomited and I got up to clean the floor. In a few seconds, I started seeing tiny stars. Of course I freaked out, as I also suffer from anxiety. I’d like to mention that my ears have been plugged (not constantly) for a month. Afterwards I felt kinda dizzy and I had some food. I didnt feel to great since morning, probably because I ate about 350g of the tiramisu I made last night, which is about 80 grams of sugar (I do eat way too much sugar and I am trying to cut down on it).

However, when my mom came home, I told her about what happened and all she did was scolding me for being too thin and saying that if I had my period (I have amenorrhea) my ears wouldnt be plugged and I wouldnt have weird visuals like those “stars”. I must mention I do not suffer from an eating disorder and have been underweight my whole life just like some others members of my family (that doesnt refer to my mom). I did go to the doctor about my period and I was given some medication (not hormones) that is harmless, however my mother wont allow me to take them.  My period did come for a tiny bit about 2 months ago, but nothing since then. I missed my period for the first time about 1,5 years ago and it has been unstable since then. I’m sorry for changing the subject so fast, there are just many health concerns I have. Overall, my health is pretty good. The only weird thing I have is a slightly raised B12 which might be from the spirulina supplement  I used to take and I also had a raised amount of a certain protein. My parents didnt really care so we didnt do more investigations.

Another concern is the side stitches I usually get after eating too much, especially if I move a lot as well. I always think it might be apendicitis as it usually happens in the right side.

My mental health isnt great either. I dont have friends anymore, my parents are divorced and they have new families. I live with my mom that makes me feel like she absolutely hates me because I have amenorrhea.

I hope this wasnt too confusing and thank you in advance! smile

What is important is what the doctor said about your condition. Why does he think your periods have stopped? What is the medication he gave you that your mother won't let you take? As you probably know being underweight can cause your  condition.  Does the doctor consider you underweight?

Re "seeing stars" when getting up, that can be a very normal thing. Usually it's caused by low blood pressure. I've had it most of my life and know never to get up too fast, especially from a prone position. It can be dangerous because it can cause you to faint and hurt yourself. I was also quite thin until my 30's.

As far as your ears being plugged up you can try an over the counter antihistamine, but you should discuss it with your mom. It's something you would take if you had a head cold and were stuffed up. It dries up excess fluid in your sinuses. Your ears are connected to your sinus passages and throat.

Lastly, you are right that eating excess sugar is not good for you. Try to make an attempt to eat a high calorie, but healthy diet. Low blood sugar can also make you feel faint. I assume your doctor has given you a blood test and discussed your eating habits with you and your mom.

Why would your mother hate you for not having your period? Maybe something else is causing the two of you to have problems. Why not talk to her, tell her you feel she is upset with you and ask her why. You could be misinterpreting what is going on.  It's important to clear the air and have good communication with at least one parent.

Good luck and be sure to eat healthily and regularly.

The doctor said I don’t have my period because I’m underweight.  I’m trying to gain but deep inside I wish I could stay like this forever. I used to hate myself for being so thin when I was younger and now I kind of started liking it. I’m also slightly skinny fat so I kind of look like I weight more than I do. I am going to the gym now almost daily and I hope I could gain weight by adding some muscle and getting leaner. I’m not going to write the name of the medication because I’m anxious someone might find this post sad It’s something that stimulates fake periods.

I think my mom hates me for this because she keeps telling me that she’s constantly feeling sick because she’s concerned and she has to take calming pills. Sometimes she even shouts, cursed and cries. She only talk about eating, but she never cooks and we usually dont have anything tasty at home so I have to cook myself.

I’m in good terms with my father but I don’t live with him unfortunately sad He knows that I suffer everyday at home and he told me to just bear it..

Hey, sorry to hear what youre going through. You may be getting up to quickly which could be causing the stars and dizziness. Or it may even be an ear infection- Do they hurt or feel warm at all. As for you being underweight, i am aswell. Im only 47kg. Im 21. I can eat loads but just dont put it on. I also get pains all in my stomach after eating. I have had severe anaemia twice where first time i was put on folic acid and ferrous sulfate tablets and then the second time i was given an iron infusion in hospital. I have also had raised potassium levels and raised white cell count aswell. Again like you my mental health isnt good and i end up in hospital nearly every other day. Do you feel stressed out or worried every day?

Thank you for your reply!smile Is your anemia better now? My ears don’t hurt or feel warm. 🤔 I used to be extremely anxious and have multiple panic attacks every day for a few weeks or maybe even months. I was also a huge hypochondriac. My parents didnt really pay attention to this and where even mad at me because I wanted to go to the hospital every week. In the end I managed to convince my mother that things are very very bad and I went to a psychologist. After a few months of therapy, going to the gym and yoga I am slightly better. smile Valerian root also helped me calm down most of the time.
