17 days post op and in pain !!

I had my gallbladder removed 17 days ago. What they first said was straightforward they said after was more complicated because it was severely inflamed and full of pus, along with about 20 stones one of which was 22mm. The last couple of days i have been in a fair amount of pain around the incision sites and also on my right side where i had a drain in. I went to my gp today who said there were no signs of infection and it could be i am not healing as normal. Any advice?

The other thing is i work as a care assistant at my local hospital on a medical ward, which we regularly have a lot of heavier patients. I have been told all different things as to when i might be able to go back to work...from 4 weeks to 8 weeks, i wondered what other peoples experience was with this.

Sorry its so long x

    Hi Samantha

I personally had a similar situation to yours with an inflamed gallbladder and gallstones. Healing process is not the same for everyone. I healed I would say fairly quick but also took 2 weeks off from work. Month later I sill felt some pain here and there and gradually it all went away . I am sure you will be fine and don't over work your self. Take some time off if you can. Best

Have any pain meds take them it's important for heeling and getting enough quality sleep.  It's takes time to recover form major surgery.

I had mine out and I was painful for a few weeks . But once heeling is over you will be able to get thru a day without the reminder of surgery.

Give it time and you will be dancing down the hospital halls in no time.

Glad to hear how well your doing now. Sounds like you had way more than expected at the same time. Open surgery is a longer recovery when the muscles are cut thru. It's a very painful recovery .

Kelle you you are very brave you went thru so much pain. I hope your on the road of recovery wih a better quality of life to look foreword too!

Thankyou im getting there slowly it was such a shock my gallbladder rupturing not long after my kidney removal, that im feeling so low and paranoid as i hate my scars. The fact that i ended up in intensive care and i ended up with a central line in my neck, makes me apriciate that im still alive but it overwhelmes me as well and i get really upset and agitated. Im still grieving as well as i lost my dad last September.

      Hi Kelle,

its going to get better. The scars will disappear in time. Mine did over time. Now application of OTC medication to reduce scar tissue.

Im so happy to hear you have made it thru this challenging journey.

      You are a survivor.

Sending my condolences for the loss of your father. He will be watching over you helping you thru this. Every medical journey has its lessons we can take away the positive and how much we have learned and grown as individuals.

      life is a gift!

      Hope
