18 year old female with hernias

I'm looking for some insight on how rare it is that I'm 18, female, and am about to have my third hernia repair. 2 inguinal hernias, 2 spigelean, and now doctors think theres another in a rare spot so it has no name. Pain every day and bulging. Have not been able to fix it through previous surgeries sad Has anyone heard of this? Also, I have never lifted weights or done super strenuous activity, I'm below average weight..doctors think I was born with weakness in my abdominal wall.

Oh Courtney, I feel so sorry for you. Only 18 and tons of problems in your short life. I would think this is very unusual. The only advice I can give is try to get the best doctor you can before they operate again. He/she may have a solution that might hold the hernias back. my best wishes go out to you.

    Hi Courtney

Like to help but I know nothing about these; mine is a Hiatus hernia and well controlled by 'Lansoprazole' tablets. Mine was detected following a CT Scan and have no pain or bulges in the abdomen.

For an 18 year old girl it must be horrendous for you and all I can really hope is that there is a cure for your problems soon.

    Kind regards

I am sorry for what you are going through. I had a spigelian hernia repair with mesh glued on. I am 39 and have had 4 pregnancies and Dr thinks that weekened my abdominal wall. I would also assume you have a weekened wall like you stated being you are thin and never pregnant it is strange. Is the surgery to repair all the ones you have had repaired? Have these all been pretty resent? Did you have mesh? My repair was 6 months ago and all had been good until a few weeks ago I started having pain in the same spot but can't feel a buldge. Maybe adhesion pain I don't know. Sorry I don't have any suggestions for you. I know the spiglian hernia is a rare type and I hope the unknown spot you have is OK.

Thank you for your response and concern(:

My inguinal hernias were repaired in October of 2013 and mesh was not used, they cut me open and I guess sewed together the weak lining. After that surgery we realized the bulge was not gone and I was still in teh same pain, but the doctor was confident it wasn't from inguinal andI had another problem. In April 2014 I went to a doctor at the mayo hospital and he was convinced I had a spigilian hernia, and sure enough when he went in he found 2. He used mesh and went in lapriscopically. Unfortunately the bulge has not gone away and the pain has even gotten worse. There is a new bulge as well. The doctors do no think that these are recurring, but are completely seperate hernias. December 16th is my next surgery and they are going to look around my whole stomach for hernias/masses instead of just wear the pain is, to hopefully prevent more surgeries. It will be my third surgery in just over a year (not including my wisdom teeth in may! lol). I hope your pain is just left over from surgery and nothing more serious! I know how awful it is to not understand what's going on in your own body!

Wow you have been through a lot. I hope this surgery is a success and no more hernias and pain for you. Spigelian hernias are hard to diagnosis and not always seen on ct. Scan i was lucky. Good luck and post how it goes
