19, no diagnosis- picture included, PLEASE HELP

Posted , 13 users are following.

I went to my gp at the beginning of the year because I had had these white patches for a while but thought nothing of them until one day I decided to google. As they didn't bother me at all I didn't really take note. At my appointment I bought up LS but my doctor told me she didn't think so. I just had a follow up appointment and she has once again said it is not LS as the patches have not changed or spread. Still I am hesitant to believe this as why are the white patches there? I'm so scared it is LS because I just turned 19 and I will have to deal with this my whole life. I have attached a picture. does this look like it could be LS? its not anywhere else and has remained like this for maybe a year. Please help!

Another note, I have no other symptoms like itching or anything which is why the doctor was unsure

Hi Kate,  your patches do not look like my white patches. I'm not a doctor so do not want to mislead you.  Maybe you should see a vulva specialist or a dermatologist.  With all the googling you did on whether it is LS, did you see any LS pictures that look like yours?

Thanks for replying! No the texture of mine look to be different, and they feel the same as my normal skin. Its so confusing and I feel like I have had these patches since was a lot younger. I just can't seem to put my mind at ease

    Kate

This is confusing to me because the white patches are on the outside whereas most images I have seen the white patches are on the inside from LS. You did say you went to a GP. If I were you, I might would try to get a diagnosis from a GYN or even a dermatologist. I would definitely want to know for sure!

Hi, it doesnt look like LS to me but you need to find a vulva clinic to find out what it is.

    Hi Kate

It doesn't look like LS to me. Ask to be referred to a Vulva dermatologist. Hope all will be ok.

I’d ask too about vitiligo. Does not look like LS to me but get a specialist.  Best of luck.

    Hi,

I'm not sure if its LS as I don't have any white patches I just have the itching. But I use steroid cream and hardly ever have any itching any more.

I was diagnosed at 19, but had symptoms since i was 18. I am now 22 and I feel like i am mostly normal down there now and it can be managed quite well with the steroid cream. So even if it is LS what you have, its not the end of the world. Definitely see another doctor, i was misdiagnosed by a specialist and many other doctors, The specialist even said to me that it wasnt LS. I eventually went to a private doctor as i was frustrated that none of the other doctors couldnt figure out what was wrong. He diagnosed me straight away and prescribed me steroid cream.

    Hi Kate,

This doesn't look like the whiteness I have from my LS. However that doesn't mean it isn't LS. You can try to get your GP to refer you to a dermatologist to get confirmation of what this is.

A GP should never fob a patient off with "it's OK, don't worry" if they don't know what you have. At the very least they should be refering you to a dermatologist for further investigation. If they don't, consider seeing another GP.

GPs can be great, but they can also be very dismissive. If you are anxious and you have no answers, you are within your rights to keep investigating and asking for referals.

I wish you the best of health.

It looks more like vitiligo than LS to me. The white patches in LS tend to be on the vulva or around the anus, not up above on the mons.  However if you really want to know, go to a dermatologist and ask to have one biopsied.

Hi Kate , sorry to hear you are worried but i amno expert but the white patches i have and by the sound of it other ladies too, started on my clitorus.

I also started with severe itching around my anus.

White patches also then spread around my labia.

GP’s are not always tht knowledgable and you fall between Gynae and a Dermatologist.

I suggest you try to see your GP and ask for a refferal

If you are still concerned .

Good luck and hope everything is ok for you 😘
