I have a section on POST-OP depression in here...
https://patient.info/forums/discuss/the-tkr-experience-or-wish-i-had-another-kidney-stone--524499
...but PRE-OP depression. Hmmm...that's a new one. Start another post with that title. I'd love to see the responses. Bet you get a ton of help.
PS: Be careful what you wish for. Read the link... It's a long recovery road...

It's awful when you're in pain Eileen. Use this time to get really prepared if you haven't already as the recovery is not easy and is also lengthy. If you are a,bye to do any sort of exercise to prepare and strengthen your legs I would really recommend it and also for your arms as you will use them twice as much after the op to move around. I'm now eight weeks post op and I don't want to sound negative in anyway but it's been eight weeks of sitting around indoors and relentless exercise to get moving again. I'm so glad I stocked my freezer etc. It all made life a little easier. I wish you well and hope you get your knee done soon.

Hi Eileen, so sorry to hear you're still awaiting a date! I know what it's like when you're on a seemingly never ending waiting list, I waited just under 6 months. You can't beat the NHS but unfortunately there are a lot of people over here with OA who need ortho operations! (We do live in a rather damp country). Which means we sit & wait! Which is so hard when you're in such pain & cant get about easily. I really feel for you.
I saw someone on here suggested colouring. Great idea! Something you can do without having to grind those poor knees getting up & down. You could maybe do a jigsaw?? Everyone I knew kept asking me when I was as going in, I got fed up with saying "don't know yet".
I know it's hard on you, perhaps as already suggested, do some exercises. Could your surgeon/gp not refer you to Physio to get some simple exercises to start conditioning your leg for the op or maybe have a look online there is an awful lot about knees online. It does help,(exercise) I did that. I'm sure it helped. The more prepared you are the better able you'll be to do the rehab.
Hopefully we'll see a post on here pretty soon saying when you are going in.
Good luck, I shall say a quick prayer for a date soon.
All the best
Marilyn
