19 year old with Prostatitis?

Hi, these past few months I've been scowring the web to figure out what I have. It started out what seemed to be a regular UTI. I prolonged going to the doctors on the account that I'm a broke college student, but when I did he said I had a UTI and gave me antibiotics. These unfortuanatly didn't work. I went again and he said there was no bacteria in my urine and could not perscribe more. He was a little rude about it saying I might cook something up with it and that he wasn't buying my "story". Later things got worse I started going to the restroom almost every hour. My symptoms seem to fluctate, mostly being:

-Freguent Urination

-Tinglying in pernis and pelvic area

-Urgencey

-Testicle pain and back (a month since I felt it though)

-Sometimes burning sensation when urinating

-Feels like something is obstructing my bowel movements

-Small, string like stools

-Dribbiling

-Weak urine flow, almost in waves

I went to another doctor and the urine test came back negative for infection. She then scheduled me for a sonogram (it's been a month, but I have it this Saturday, THANKFULLY). I've been on a crusade to ease my pain - Tumeric, Prostate Pills (saw palmetto and zinc), Cranberry pills, no caffine nor spicy foods, Brocolii Treatment, Frequent ejaculations and etc. .I thought I had IC, but as I do more research it seems it's prostatitis and the supplements I've been taking seem to ease my situation by 20%-50%..

So my question is what is the possiblity of it being bacterial? Should I ask for all the tests like a prostate massage to get the fluid for a culutre? 4 glass urine test? Is there something I should ask the urologist when I see him/her? Does non bacterial prostatitis ever actually go away? Maybe just a little? What has worked for you or other people? Cirpo? Prostate massage? I use to be a pretty happy guy, but I see myslef slipping into depression here and there. There are times when I have no symptoms for a few minutes and I just pause with happiness untill the tinlgy feeling comes again. sad

Much of what you describe sounds like my non bacterial prostatitis apart from the stringy stools. I have been getting if for several years and blamed it on my enlarged prostate (BPH) like you initial urine tests mostly showed an UTI but the symptoms did not go away when later urine tests were clear. The longest period I had it for was from one May to September when it suddenly went more or less overnight.

Last year prior to having laser surgeryu to reduce my prosate it kept on coming back. After the laser surgery last May I thought it would be a thing of the past as with my bladder emptying completely I thought that I would not get UTI's.  This year it came back worse than ever. Again a UTI that cleared in a week but the symptoms carried onfor several weeks before again suddenly departing. I did start taking Turmeric, cranberry juice  and Saw Palmetto in tincture form again and perhaps that helped but who knows.

Many urologists are sceptical of symptoms without an infection. The pain in my case was always worse when in bed or when sitting, Standing and waliking eased it. I have not tried prostate massage but you can google for a DIY device to use.

Hope that it clears up for you soon.

I have been having a similar problem for over a year now.  I to have been to the Doctor who doesn’t seem to be able to find the cause.  I have done some research on the internet and have come up with the following:

Urine flows through the urethra from the balder through the middle of the prostate.  During ejaculation the prostate secretes fluid into the urethra to aid the flow of sperm to its destination.  If there is bacteria in the prostate it usually only shows up in this fluid, therefore, not often detected in a pure urine sample.

The prostate does not have a very good blood supply to it so Antibiotics have a hard time getting to the source of the problem.  It is mainly the anti-inflammatory element of antibiotics that eases the symptoms.

I have found Saw Palmetto, Pumpkin Seed oil is a good combination to reduce the symptoms coupled with prostate massage using an Aneros Prostate massager eventually cleans the prostate pipes.

Thank you for the reply! Yeah, I've been reading up on how the prostate works (didn't even really know I had one untill this problem). I plan on getting a massager because that seems to be one of the greatest physical ways to combat it.

Thank you again for the reply. I will try combining the Saw Palmetto and Pumpkin Seed Oil. I hope your symptoms dissapear soon!

You know Ive just read about gluten and that it can couse prostatittis. A few years ago I couldnt drink any bear or bread as I had a bloated tummy, terrible heartburn  and I sometimes  urinated abaout 5 times in an hour. Eventually an Internest told me that he think I shoul reduce my bread corn and starch foods drastically and also drink less water as my fluid intake was just too much. I couldnt believe that a doctor would tell a patient to drink less water as all the doctors keep on telling us to drink more water. He told me to reduce my fluids to nothing more than 2 liters a day and that also  includes coffee cold drinks etc.I also realised that even wheat drinks made with hot milk and without alkohol made me terribly thirsty and I think you must try to cut down on the starchn and if you drink too much fluids try and make it less.

Hmm, never heard about gluten being a problem. I think I'll cut down on the starch for a week or two and see if I see any improvements, and to drink less too.

Thank you for the info wally! I appreciate it.

Hi Stephen, curious how you are doing now? Any updates on your condition and what has helped. I'm dealing with a similar situation now for the last month. Same symptoms you mentioned. Doctor says urine doesn't show infection but was on Cipro for about 19 days and had to stop due to side effects of tendon and muscle pain.

I have an Aneros but haven't used it in years because I could never figure it out. I'm considering taking another look at it. I have to see my urologist this coming Wednesday but I'm afraid he is either going to scope me (cystoscopy) or try to put me on more antibiotics.

I've been taking turmeric pills for the last 2 days and thinking about getting cranberry pills and a prostate health formula. Just curious about your progress since you last posted.

    Thanks!
