1979 flight from India

In 1979, on a flight home to the UK from India, when I was 20, my ears went pop. Ever since I have had annoying crackling sounds in my ears. I went to see an ENT specialist and all he said was 'You have sticky Eustachian tubes'. Nothing to be done. I put up with it for decades and two years ago, noticing that my hearing seems to be dull, I went to have my ears checked. I was told that there is very slight loss in the upper range but nothing to worry about. I asked her if I could have my Eustachian tubes cleaned out but she said there is no way and grommets are not the answer as they don't last long. I have put up with it for all these years and it is still a misery. I'm so glad to have discovered that it has a name and that others are out there who can share and support one another.

I am going through a recent problem that has presisted over the last year due to an infection. It's a real pain in the ass like most Chronic health problems, but yes good to know there is some recognition out there.
Good luck! Looks like there is new possible therapy with Baloon dialation, which given your long standing problem, might be worth a look.

My sister said her ear issues started on a flight too. Her doctor thinks she might have Meniere's disease. I have ETD and she has similar yet different symptoms. She has severe vertigo and I don't. I get fluid in my ears that I can feel sloshing around and she doesn't.
