1st ARC appointment tomorrow, any expectations?

Posted , 7 users are following.

Hi all,

I have my first meeting with my keyworker tomorrow and wondered what my expectations should be?! I have fallen out the saddle a bit recently and am pinning my hopes on tomorrow! Are they likely to prescribe me some medication or will I have to force the issue? Will I get anywhere if I do?

I need help as I need to stop completely but am not strong enough to do it myself, plus I worry about health implications.

Any shared experiences / advice appreciated!

Many thanks

Rach

Most probably you will have to force the issue but medications such as Nalmefene or campral is allowed to be prescribed to you as long as you meet the requirements

Hi, Rach, I hope your meeting goes well. Please be honest about your alcohol consumption. And depending on whether you want total abstinence or controlled drinking you should be offered options for either one.

    Hello Rach,

Just make sure that you state your health concerns clearly and fully.  Also, make sure that your request for medication to help you, is recorded.  I would take a note of details along, to refer to.

    Good Luck,

Start the meeting without any expectations and come back and tell us the result.

But as others have said, you're going to have to push medications, or they will just want to keep on talking about it, which doesn't really help.

    Rach,

bring a written account of your habbits with you and the med support you have rec'd in the past. What u have done what doesn't help what does.

Let them know that you have read as much about alcohol use disorder and realize that your brain and body are addicted and will power has not worked for you and mention what you have done in the past.

Keep a journal of your habbits and triggers. Also print out the Sinclair method from this site and bring with you. Ask for the medication that this is what you would like to try. Be kind and respectful. It goes a long way.

Keep us posted. Positive blessings sent your way!
