Hi, what you are experiencing is totally normal. The side effects are horrible for the first 5 days but do get easier. It can take 4-8 weeks for them to kick in properly and for the side effects to go, BUT they get so much easier and less and less.

Stick with it. It's normal! Try distract yourself, worked for me. Also accept that how you're feeling is meant to happen so its normal. Good luck x

Hi Chris. I agree with Yorkshire it takes time to calm down in your system. It's a sedative so you will be tired until your body gets used to it. My brother was on a high dosage for  OCD.

Try not to over anyalise the symptoms as then you will become anxious and go round in a loop. Have you also tried Mindfulness Meditation it can also really help to calm anxious minds, I do it daily. Take caresmile

I think some of the symptoms may be anxiety. I was exactly the same but i've been on sertraline for over 2 years now and i have to say they are brilliant. Good luck smile

Hi I'm am on to week 3 of 50mgs and it has been very up and down , I'm having lots of sleepless nights I was given them for anxiety but I am still feeling anxious, I think this due to the lack of sleep , I will stick with it though. I'm finding this a great forum as I have never been on meds before, hope you are okay and stick with it . Remember we are always here to chat .

Hiya, first I'm so sorry you are having a difficult time.

My experience with sertraline was very difficult at first. I had tried quite a few other antidepressants and could not tolerate the side effects which made me feel wired and very restless. i kept having panic attacks and the depression and anxiety did not go. I also had suicidal thoughts and there was never a day I didn't want to be here. However, I stopped crying all the time and started to have improved sleep which was usually 2 hours and then waking and never as long as four hours. I started to sleep a little longer.

I went back to the doctor and told him I didn't think the meds were working. He uppd my dose to 100mgs aday very persuasively so I took his advice. This was a good couple of months ago. My sleep improved more, and I didn't have constant panic attacks or suicidal thoughts as much. I have had light head aches throughout and no appetite, but I didn't have one before. I also suffered from constant tiredness. This was normal for me though because I have been very ill. Also I was completely unable to relax. This also improved a little.

Very Recently I saw my psychologist doctor again and he increased my dose to 150 mg a day. He said that if things did not really improve he was going to try another med for anxiety which he recommended.

This has all taken a long time and months to notice an improvement, but there is one so I am persevering

I am therefore patiently struggling away hoping things will improve.

all the meds are different and affect different people in many different ways I know its really horrible at first, but if you are worried about how you are feeling then I would go back and tell the doctor. if you have only been taking the meds for a short time he will prob advise to persevere. however the meds might not be right for you so I advise you to have things checked out to be on the safe side.

I did try quite a few others myself including citalopram but I really couldn't take the side effects after 3 or 4 mths. Sertraline seems to be the only thing that has helped me somewhat so far.

I have to say I dont like having to resort to antidepression meds but I was really desperate.

I hope this helps you to be a little more informed and that perhaps things have improved for you already.

I'm on 150mgs a day for the last 3 or 4 days and don't know what the outcome will be. Good luck.. keep in touch if it helps...

Ps... I tried to come off slowly in the beginning but noticed myself getting worsed and worse again so kept on trying
