1st week

Hello, I'm Simon and I'm 24.

Just taken my 7th 20mg dose of citalopram.

I approached my doctor with concerns about my lack of energy and motivation to do much more than drag myself into my weekend job at a supermarket, he offered my a questionaire and diagnosed me with depression, and on the same day i took my first citalopram.

Since then i have taken one 20mg tab between 8-10 am every day.

Initially they made me very tired, and i had a nap the first couple of days in the afternoon. By the third day i felt a bit better, well enough to go out and rejoin a gym.

The other big side effect i noticed was dry mouth. I cant shake a rather unpleasant taste in my mouth, a sort of dull dry taste and took the advice o read on patientuk and bought some boiled sweets, which did help.

I also feel every so slightly spaced out, however i can still concentrate and its not too much to be a problem.

My work at the weekend felt much more bearable than usual as i felt much more cheerful, however i did suffer from waves of tiredness. Saturday evening i felt it very difficult to get to sleep and sunday evening even worse, however i found that getting up watching tv for 5minutes or so helped me get off.

I'm hoping they work, as i felt stuck in a rut with no motivation to do anything about it, so fingers crossed, tho i am feeling slightly better now after 1 week.

Anyone else had similair experiences after one week?

Hi day one for me and all's been well, I'm sure they helped but I was told it would take a week or so to kick in.

I'm on 10ml and caught my depression early, anyway I will keep you posted.

I actually found myself grining for no reason is this normal?

After reading the posts on here I was quite worried but now I'm glad I had already taken the pil.

I even went out to the pub and didn't drink and did not feel uncomfatable at all.

    Hello

glad you are both doing ok, its day 4 for me on 10mg and I was really nervous about taking it. I am experiencing similar side effects to you Simon, tiredness, dry mouth and quite spaced out but all in all I am starting to feel slightly better already. I am at work and absolutely hate my job but feel slightly detached from it and not as down as I was feeling. I just hope I don't come crashing down again.

    good luck and best wishes

Glad to hear you are both feeling some benefit to start with.

I deffinately agree with the drink issue, i tend to avoid it now but feel ok about it.

I didnt find myself grinning but i certainly did feel short bursts of happiness or energy that i didnt previously, before settling down again to a more normal mood.

I have been feeling increasingly more spaced out as the days have gone by, possibly as the treatment builds up,(usually in the evening) and the same for dry mouth(usually at night).

I think i'm deffinately feeling more cheerful, whether or not its the citalopram or just the fact i'm doing something about the depression thats causing this i can't be sure.

It will be interesting to see how this changes towards the week 3/4 stage.

    Hope you both feel well.

    Hi

I am on my 2nd week of the drug and i am getting on with it very well, i still have a funny tast in my mouth but i am copping with that my sucking on mints.

another side affect i am having is lose of apertite, being a female i dont mind this to much as i like the weight loss but it has concerned my husbond.

My depersion and moods has changed slightly and my boss thinks i have calmed down alot over the last week and i have been a lot more productive, but i think that is down to me not feeling so depressed.

Anyway hope you all get on well with this drug like i have

    Good luck
