1st Week Zoloft bad, any drugs to help with side effects?

I am at the end of my first week of Zoloft and what a hell of a week.  I am taking it for anxiety and my anxiety has increased as well as a marked increase in social anxiety, I am having trouble going to work even.  Also having trouble sleeping. I sleep for a few hours and wake up already with a tight chest and anxiety and suicidal thoughts.  I read that it takes a few weeks for side effects to go away but I was wondering if anyone found anything to help with the side effects?  I am not a pill taker but I did take one vallium this morning and it did help for a few hours but I am unsure of continous use.  HELP!!

My GP just gave me .5mg 20 Xanax and I took 1/2 today to get me out. She suggested since I am having this trouble that I see a psychiatrist who can better evaluate me, but in SOuth Florida there aren't many psychiatrists and it taked weeks if not months to get an appointment. It is even a struggle to cut the grass.  I am due to go from 25mg Zoloft to 50mg but am apprehensive.  Over the past three days the side effects have become less and I am going to push to go to a small social concert at the UU church tonight where most are friends, am hoping I can handle it.

I have realized that I have been having anxiety for many many years but shrugged it off as life, that is until it peaked over the last months and I found out that my older brother has been dealing with debilitating anxiety for the past 15 years or so and my father related that he had the same when my prother spoke with him but back then it was seen as just the trials of life and he lived with it with difficulty.  I am so hoping that this is the right med (ctmbalta had me suicidal in 24 hours) and I can start feeling normal soon.

THis forum and those like it have been a goddessend, I now know that I am not alone and the side effects that I am going through are common and can lead to a better life.  I just want to get through one day without it being a struggle.

I am going to search for support groups in S FL and hopefuly I can find one to help me through.

Upped my dosage last Sunday to 50mg and saw an increase in anxiety but not as much as when I forst started with 25mg.  Mornings are the worst, difficult to get going and out of the house.  Also still having anxiety when I have things to do and functioning.  I am really hoping that sticking with this will give me some sense back to normalcy soon, I don't know how much longer I can take every day being a struggle.

Mt GP has directed me to find a psychiatrist to better monitor the meds but unfortunately in South Florida it is difficult to find one who is taking new patients, they are scarce.  I went through 6 on my BCBS plan and and none are accepting new patients or there is an 8 week waiting period.
