2 months post op bunion surgery

Hi, I am just over 2 months post op from bunion surgery on both feet and everything was perfect up until now! The surgery went well, minimal to no pain at all, the scars have healed nicely, can barely see them and up until last week I was walking great with no pain at all (apart from the aching of the stiff big toe). Last week my right foot started to get painful and the pain has got worse. The pain isn't actually coming from where they operated, but from the base of my second toe and when I bend my foot to walk the pain shoots from the bottom to the top of my foot! It is so painful that I cant bend my foot to walk at the moment. Also if I touch the top of the joint of second toe and up along the top of my foot it feels bruised and tender. My big toe also looks elevated now and doesn't touch the floor where as before this pain it didn't. I am so upset as everything was going well up until this happening! Has anyone else had this problem.

Yes, I have the exact same thing.  It doesn't happen all the time and will ease up, but I can't walk barefoot around the house or with socks.  Hurts too much.  But, when I wear FitFlops it feels fine.  Does it feel that way even with shoes on?  Maybe not enough platform.

Hi joyce sorry to also hear your in pain! It still felt painful in shoes too! Not sure if you read my comment to christine but ive just found out today that my bone has dislodged! I will find out monday where i go from here. Im assuming another op and the dreadful long recovery period again! Dont let this worry you as im sure this doesnt happen alot! And its prob my own fault as ive been doing too much! Pain is all part and parcel of this type of op . They do say it takes a full year in total to recover so take it easy and rest as much as u can. Take care

Hi I am 2 and a half months post surgery and things were going great for me. I have now been hit by aching pains in the top of my foot and around the ankle on the opposite side of the bunion op. At the moment I am sitting with my foot in a foot bath with Epsom salts as I read on the Internet that this helps with foot pain. I am hoping that this will ease the pain

    Hope your problems resolve soon.

Hi christine, sorry to hear your also in pain! I hope it gets better soon. I now know what has caused my pain as I have just came back from hospital! My Instincts kept nagging me that something wasn't right. So demanded an x ray ( after being sent away 3 times because apparently I wasn't an emergency). I have been told my bone has displaced.where they made the cut and pinned it. Its completely dislodged! Im so upset that I will prob have to have another op etc and go through that hellish period of recovery AGAIN! Im sure your pain is all part of the heeling so dont worry, but i will say try not do too much...like i did, i was up walking around normal and taking the dog on her 40 minuets walk thinking it was all good exercise because i felt ok! So take it easy and keep feet up as much as poss. : )

I'm am so sorry to hear this happened. I was reading all the posts and ha to respond an just say I'm.sorry and wish you well.

I'm 11 wks and just started walking. I'm goin to take your advice and go slow. I still have a month before I go back to work so I have time to adjust.

Everything will be okay. They'll fix the problem and before you know it you'll be in cute shoes and sandals again.

Wish you a healthy an speedy recovery.

P.s. vitamin B and collegen will help with the healing and strengthing of ligaments.

Hi Jennifer that's really kind thank you. : ) to say I am upset is an understatement. I was doing so well! I am dreading going back to square one but at least it will only be the one foot this time and not both like before! And I am starting to think that wearing my heels again is never going to happen! ( I love my heels : ( I will be extra careful this time and take my time with recovery ( even if things do feel good and have no pain)

Good luck with your recovery sounds like your doing great...take it easy and rest when you can : )

Hi my big toe was straight after surgery but about two weeks in was quite elevated.  When I went back to the surgeon he was confident it would go down eventually.  Ie did the exercises he suggested but now nearly one year after surgery the toe is still slightly elevated and I think always will be.  I did not get any pain at any time in the big toe and so I think this is something you should raise with your surgeon.  The bunion I had removed was a really large bunion and has come back a little.  Having been there, I know what a worry time this is and I am sure things will be fine.
