2 weeks on Citalopram

Hi Guy's,

I started citalopram (10mg) 14 days ago for extreme anxiety and depression . Side effects have been nasty but are slowly easing. I wasn't able to eat at all up until a few days ago and I've noticed my appetite has improved slightly and I'm getting maybe 1-2 hrs more sleep each night than I used to (hoping these are good signs that it's starting to work), but what I would really like to know is when did it start kicking in and help you feel better with the anxiety and depression? I still get really horrible morning anxiety that doesn't ware off till around 4pm and even after then I still feel on edge with all the horrible anxiety symptoms (racing scary thoughts), head pressure, and a general sense of just not feeling like me anymore. I know 14 days in is not alot of time but has anyone else been in the same position then started to improve greatly? Just looking for some hope and reassurance to stick with it (anxiety is a nightmare).

I can completely relate. this is my second time i cit i have been on it now over 6 weeks. the first 4 weeks were horrible with all the side effects and horrible increased anxiety I lost so much weight. then I got better for few days and it dipped again it's been horrible however past week I managed to go out and do stuff. Slowly you will start seeing improvements particularly if this is your first time on it you should see some positives within 4 to 8 weeks. for some it takes longer. this medication saved my life when I took it over few years ago I got to the point of feeling so great I thought I dont need then anymore and stopped taking them slowly. after 7 months I crashed really badly. so back on it again and not planning to go off at all. stay on them they really do help a lot the recovery process is long it comes with lots of horrible blips along the way. dont get discouraged when the anxiety and depression gets worse for a bit again it's all part of recovery. try to not just rely on medication try some therapy and self help exercise self reflection. you will get there and you will enjoy life.

Thank you soo much for your reply. You have given me the faith I needed to stick it out. I am soo glad it's helped you before and now again and that you're doing better! The side effects are a real journey aren't they lol. I didn't think I could manage with even more anxiety than I had before I started them, but somehow I have. Some days are better than others but hopefully soon I'll have more good days than bad and can feel like myself again!
