2 weeks post op and my house burned down.

Posted , 12 users are following.

I was the only one home at the time and managed to get down two flights of stairs and out by myself.

It happened saturday. We lived in a hotel for a few days and just rented a house and moved in yesterday. Needless to say I over did it and am feeling it today. My physical therapist was supposed to visit while we were moving from the hotel to the house so I had to cancel.

My teenage daughter's rooms were upstairs and they ended up losing everything.

The outpouring of help from the community has been amazing but I have felt so helpless watching everyone work while I couldn't do much. At least no one was hurt and the girls are taking it ok. Things are chaotic over here right now but at least we have a roof over our heads. Not to sort through everything and try to get rid of the soot, ash, and smoke smell.

I have my follow-up appointment with the surgeon on friday with x rays. I just need some rest now.

Actually I'm a 48 year old man, lol.

That makes not being able to help even more difficult. My daughters and girlfriend are doing a lot of the work while I'm forced to sit and watch. Thankfully members of the community have helped a lot.

    Dear Chris,

First where are you?   What an awful thing to happen but like you say everyone is safe.

You rest up and take it easy as things can wait... if you are nearby perhaps I can offer some help..

Wow - thank goodness you were able to manage to get out on your own! Your heart must have been pounding. I probably would have tripped over myself five times. 😯

And now for the even harder part ahead.

As Elaine asked - where do you live? Let us know please - we may be able to help and/or mobilize our networks to help in many ways.

My heart really goes out to you.

It will be even harder to stick to your restrictions overy the next whole - but now more than ever, you need to. Do the 'brain work' to set up the priorities and organize your 'troops' and do let us know where you live so we can call on our networks to help.

Time to channel your inner 'delegater warrior' and let others be your hands and feet.

Big wave of hugs and prayers headed your way,

    Linda

    Chris,

Oh my heart goes out to you - but thank goodness you and your family are safe, and you didn't dislocate in your rush to evacuate the house.

I can imagine how frustrating it is for you, being the man of the house, used to sorting things out but now not being able to do much at all.

Like others here, I would love to help, but we're a continent away from you.

You poor dear man!!!  What a terribly traumatic thing to happen!!  Just adding a huge insult to injury!!!  I'm so very glad the community is helping.  Take care of yourself and that hip!  REST as much as possible and pamper yourself, you can make up for lost time later, first things first!  You and your family are absolutely in my prayers!!

p.s.  Glad you will be seeing your surgeon on Friday too.  Let him know what's going on by all means. He will be able to guide you along.

    Blessings and Hugs,

    Terri

    Hi Chris

Lyn from Australia I'm so sorry for your loss. Here we have had storms and floods with a lot of people loosing houses. It is so wonderful the support you have been given and lovely how people open their hearts when these things happen. The best part is that your family is safe. Please don't feel helpless at this time the community are here to help and you have just had major surgery.

Stay strong and positive you can get through this.

Hugs to you all xx 😊
