2 weeks what exercise can you do?

Two weeks and I am itching to get fit again, but don't know what is safe to do. Please advise me what you could manage at this stage? It is mid winter here - thank you smile

Very gently does it. These are the ones my physio gave me.... 1) Stand holding kitchen worktop and lift operated knee three times. 2)Lift the operated leg out behind you. 3) Lift operated leg very carefully to side and hold for a few seconds.   Rest for a few hours, try again for a few minutes.

Why then am I feeling so restless to go for a long hike and run around like a crazy person! Perhaps joy that I survived the experience and it is over - and also suddenly feeling much better! I haven't been this pain free in

YEARS!!!!! I could do a jig for joy!

cheesygrin you are so adorable !!!!!!

you know what I do???  I just picture it ... no, it is not the same ..being in Holland, in the forest, barenaked trees and I go to Hawaii - walk in the sand, go into the ocean -

In my hypnotherapy training we learned that visualizing, seeing in your minds eye, walking, running, doing any exercises, will stimulate the cells in your body - subconscious mind does not distinguish what is real or not real - (nor does it have a sense of humor, which I seriously doubt ) -

But I agree Rose, continue with what you are doing, maybe increase it here and there a bit - your body will let you know when you have done too much ...

      do that jig honey

      big warm hug

As Shirley says do your excersizes a bit cautiously for now you will get stronger don't try to rush it I wasn't allowed out for three weeks due to the many outside steps we have I am managing okay two months in so you will be doing fine don't worry

Hi Rose, I know exactly how you feel but please take it slow. The exercises that Shirley mentioned are good. I know it's four weeks before you can use an exercise bike. Have you had any contact with a physio since your discharge? I was told someone should come and see me at home but they couldn't tell me how long it would be and until then I just had to keep doing the exercises I'd been shown on the bed in hospital & to go for two walks a day building up from 10 minutes. I haven't been outside yet, am aiming for that tomorrow.

Just take it slow. I'm lying here thinking I could be doing this that and the other but then I think of the excruciating pain I was in last night. That was a gentle reminder from my body to take it easy. Walking is the best exercise in the early weeks.

Exercises as Shirley below has suggested, but I would add, when lifting that knee, be careful and don't break the 90 degree rule, and only until you feel the pull, It is not designed to hurt yourself, just go very gently and maybe even as much as repeating 3 times a day. Another little exercise to try, is again holding kitchen workbench, or back of solid chair, imagine you are trying to sit down, straight from the standing position, but only allow yourself to go a couple of inches the first few times, then work on going a little further, be very careful with this, and maintain your control you don't want to go down too far, you will hurt yourself, again lots of repeats, good for legs, and well as back, you will notice the pull, apparently its all about standing straight when you try this, to get best value.

With my hospital physios agreement I downloaded an app pocket physio, NHS designed, and followed that. It gives exercises at various stages

It feels great doesn't it! To be out of pain.

You can do anything with the upper body and that increases fitness because you can get the heart pumping. Boxing? Swimming? Listen to your body though cause it is horribly easy to over do it.
