Had a TKA 2years ago. Had many problems after it. Weakness, swelling, pain, unexplained bump that shows up on knee in same spot, ( bump shows up after feeling like something pinched in the inside of knee). Not even 40 years and allrwady had TKA. Got fired from work cuz i couldnt return after 6 weeks after surgery as a result of muscle weakness. Finally got a new job which i need for insurance, go to ortho cuz of pain and told I need a revision. Ortho wont touch me, and said for me to wait 6 months to a year and he will give me another bone scan. He said quit work!! Is it normal to wait awhile before getting it fixed? How do i get it fixed if he wont fix it? Supposedly a visionary knee replacement that is sopposed to be better according to DR and last close to 30 years sucks it lasted 2 years.

Hi heather. Get a second opinion. The medicos are not infallible. Hope things improve for you. If the bump is an effusion such as I have, then it does reduce after a year. Get an x-ray too.

Terrible for you heather. This happened to my sister's hip. Device failure is rare but occurs. If your current Specialist doctor is not helping you then perhaps someone different will. x

Do you know what kind/type/model your knee is? There have been recalls of certain types. Find out. This sounds like a lawsuit to me. Terrible for you to have that kind of problem. I agree with 2nd opinion and check out the make and model knee in the internet. Best of luck.

      Hi Heather

I am with you all the way. I had TKR on 13/02/2016 and it's been a nightmare from practically day one!

This morning they have given me an injection to test for deep rooted infection plus aspiration which is draining the fluid off around the knee. If this doesn't work then it's repositioning of the patella.

The whole experience has really taken it out of me!!

Hi Mary, I was interested in what you had to say, as I had TKR on 9/1/2016. I trded hard to strenthen my knee as was told, but kept falling over and could not lift my leg up at all. After a very bad fall and landing in hospital. I went back to consultant, who gave me a scan and said the patella had stretched around my knee cap. So next day 20/11/2016 had op wire with screws put in and patella stitched back. I have never know such pain, and lots of infection.Result to day still on crutches can walk 100 yds with them trying hard now to get quads working. But they say I will be another year before I can walk.Being 74 years time is not on my side Regards Pam
