2 years ago diagnosed 7cm hiatus hernia can't cope anymore
Posted , 3 users are following.
I Was diagnosed 2 years ago had 2 endoscopys done in 6 months and within that 6 months my hiatus hernia had gone from a 4cm to a 7cm,
And since that diagnosis 2 years ago and the fact no medication was working I was put on the list for reflux surgery,
Fast forward 2 years and obviously because of covid I'm still waiting for the PH test because the surgeon refuses to do surgery until I have the PH test,
There is currently a 2 year waiting list for just that,
I'm back n forth to hospital and constantly onto my doctors, I have no life,
I've been moved to 80mg omeprazole a day with gaviscon,
And I refused to take the "domepine" tablets as it said not to take if you have a prolactinoma (which I have),
I've had a doctor at my hospital say to me it's the worst hiatus hernia he has seen in 20 yrs,
The pain (pressure) that goes across my chest (at the top of my stomach) and swollen is horrendous,
I'm tired by 9pm and I sleep in until 1pm,
That's some days,
But I spend all day laying in my bed in pain
I really feel like it's medical negligence,
The surgeon sent a letter saying he would ring me on the 2nd July I was so happy I thought this would be the call for me to tell him exactly how bad I am,
He didn't bother ringing, it's funny on there letters it says "if your unavailable for the phone call you will be taken off the list"
Yet they can not bother ringing you,
I ring his secretary and she said he's sent a letter out to you, it's now the 20th August still no letter,
I know it's affecting my gallbladder and liver because one of the doctors at the hospital asked me if I drank alcohol heavily (which I dont touch a drop as my mother is an alcoholic),
I'm at my wits end and I dont know who to turn to I've already wasted years of my life

I just posted about a 7 cm hernia which is called an Paraesophageal Hernia. I found a hospital who does not accept Covid patients. Surgery should be scheduled in 2 weeks. My hernia has ruptured through the stomach and at over 1/3 of my stomach is now in my diaphram. Are you speaking of the same type hernia.

Hi,
Mine is a hiatus hernia and oesophagitis,
I was told while seeing an out of hours doctor that if I started being sick I was to go to AnE and they would immediately put me on a drip,
Well last night I did and I was still awaiting there after an hour , so I just walked out,
I've now been scheduled for a upper endoscopy GI on the 28th of this month,
I've got to stop ALL ppi for 10 days before and get a covid test,
I'm panicking really bad, I currently take 80mg omeprazole, and I'm still in pain
Chest pain, constant swollen stomach, can't bend because acid will come up and I don't know how ill do 10 days without anything,
But they have arranged this so I can bypass having the PH test as the waiting list is long,
Can't wait for this month to be over with,
What a waste of nearly 4 years of my life and having nothing done about it,
I'm in the UK

So sorry to hear all of this. Are you working with socialized medicine? So far, thank God, we in the US do not have to deal with that. They did an upper GI scope to diagnose mine. Never had to have the PH test or stops medication for GERD.

Hi Claire
I am new here ! I read your post and feel for you ! have you any updates in the latest 8 weeks ?
I have last week been diagnosed with a 4cm Hiatus hernia. I have been suffering since March and haven't really gone a day without any symptoms. It really drains you. PPI Omeprazole didn't work, lanzaprazole I had side effects, I am taking h2 antagonist at the moment but not sure they are really doing anything! Waiting on the Gp to get back to me re the Gastroscopy report .
I was going to ask about surgery, the prospect of this pain, inability to do just normal tasks and the gerd is daunting! seems from your experience need to get on the list asap ! did they give you any idea why your hernia went from 4cms to 7cms in 6 months ? I am in the UK too
