2 years of hip pain with all tests clear

So I be been having an on going issue for the past 2 years nearly where I get such a pain in my hip and upper leg I can't walk or even sit for any long period of time, this pain started when I was in the Army doing my basic training, the pain and treatment received by the army made me leave.

Anyway! The pain position is difficult to explain, it's all round the hip bone (that sticks out) on the left hand side, I can be painful on my side and back and also down my leg towards my knee on really bad days, but mostly it in the hip bone area and down the outside of my leg in a sort of L shape of you like, starting at the inner joint of my leg to hip and running all the way round. The pain is so bad that I wants to cry on its bad days, other days aren't to bad and I can work and go to the gym, the pain can only be discribed as sharpe prolonged stabbing with a serious ache.

Now I've had an MRI with injection and a CT scan as well as x-rays and nothing has come up, my doctor (a specialist in his field) just told me to get used to the pain because there was nothing he could do, now I'm only 22 years old and have to use crutches to even move around my own house and take a lot more pain killers than proberly recommended.

I just wondered if anyone else has ever felt a pain like this before or have any advised about what to do!

I'm sorry to hear about your pain and that the reason is proving so elusive. It has to be a process of elimination so have you eliminated anything to do with your back? I've found that many explained pains can be caused by a imbalance of some kind there perhaps causing muscle spasm.

If there is nothing wrong with the bones and joints, then it is most likely a soft-tissue problem in muscles, tendons, ligaments or other connective tissue, or perhaps even nerves. Diagnostic musculo-skeletal ultrasound can pick up many soft tissue tears and injuries. Since your current physician doesn't seem able to help you, perhaps it is time for you to search for a different specialist, and keep looking until you find one that can diagnose and treat your specific problem.

The orthopedic surgeon (OS) who did my hip replacement surgery was completely clueless about a complication I had after the operation. I had to find a different OS who was truly familiar with muscles/tendons in the hip/gluteal area who was able to diagnose my two gluteal tendon tears, and to perform the surgery to repair them.

Hopefully your situation won't require surgery, but it does deserve a physician who can determine what is wrong and how to help.
