20 days post op - Walking

Posted , 6 users are following.

Hi all,

Well, I've walked around the block, twice, so far today (with an hours break in between), so that's a total of 1.57km 😊. On two sticks but I'm thrilled with that, no pain.

Like everyone else, in still struggling with the back sleeping, if anything the waking during the night with lower back pain seems to be getting worse. I'm still scared to weigh myself, I've tried to be really good, but I'm SURE I've put on weight.

Hope everyone is well and is enjoying the sunshine (if you have any 😊).

Fiona

      Thanks so much Renee,

It's unusual to see sunshine in Glasgow 😊. Thanks so much for your words of encouragement (especially about the weight, I'm hoping some/most of its down to swelling).

      Fiona 😊 Xx

Excellent.....just make sure you rest as well. I have no pain but still tender where the cut was done on the side of my leg. Had a bad night last night and hate sleeping on my back. During the day fine but aches at night. GP told me that your body goes into a different zone during your sleep and this is when the body does the most repair work.....hence the discomfort. 4 weeks tmrw since the op. On 1 crutch. Gets me in the groin sometimes.

      Thanks Patricia,

I had a snooze in between walks, hope my leg doesn't swell like a balloon later.

That's interesting about the healing when we're asleep, and it makes perfect sense.

I hope we all get a good sleep tonight!

Me too! I have decided if I cannot sleep tonight, tend to wake up about 3/30pm, I will take our super soft blanket and sleep in my comfy chair with feet/legs up in the lounge!

      Take care.

    Fiona,

Really well done there - major milestones.

Tell me about the weight - I must have put on 12-14 pounds over the weeks, so it's back to the old diet and more exercise now.

Keep a record of how far you go, it'll surprise you in a few weeks time just how well you are doing.

    Big hugs.

Very impressive Fiona! Be sure to elevate after or you risk getting as swollen as I got after my first distance walk. Oh my goodness - so not attractive, soooo uncomfortable.

Keep it going and do NOT focus on any weight gain (remember your titanium hip weighs more than your old one). Now that you have moved off the scintillating staring at your four walls or ceiling routine, you will likely be able to manage your weight better.

Now you can start planning 'outings' ... we are so lucky to have this procedure available to us - even if it is not all we could want it to be.

I would love to hear what you are hankering to do next ...

    Linda
