    OK. 60 is not old.

The scan will be the key.

And I make a guess here . . .. Before you went into A&E, you probably found the only comfortable dozing position was in an easy chair. Sleeping prone in your own bed was impossible.

I look forward to hearing if any small clots are detected.

Hi it's a 6.5 drop not 20% according to your figures.   I shouldn't worry too much as your fev1 can vary by a few points anyway and if you took another one today it might be back up a bit.  x

Sorry I was working it out as about 20% from the drop in litres which is 1.27 to 1.02 roughly 20%

    Hi guys

I just wondered if our diaphragm has any influence on spirometry results? I mean someone with a strong diaphragm who developed copd would show better results than someone with a weaker diaphragm?

I don't see how - my understanding is that spirometry measures how much your can breathe OUT not in and I don't see how your diaphragm could affect that

That's exactly what I thought but wouldn't a stronger diaphragm be able to air To push air out from the lungs quicker? I redlly don't know 😁

This is an interesting point:  I think we should all ask our gps and specialists and physio's and see what they think:  I reckon a physio would know

I believe there are some conditions that are caused by the diaphram being paralized on one dide or the other

Hi, I have found everybodies answers helpful...my doctor just called and told me so long as the mucus is white or even pale yellow there is no infection....he said that this type of cough after an infection (which I did have over Christmas) can last for weeks and weeks...seeing as my X-ray was clear  he could not put me forward for a CT scan.  Plenty of liquids to thin the mucus, steam regularly, and use the nasal spray I was once given and if after a further 3 weeks, if it has not gone, give him a call!

Ho Hum! I am not too bad today after two days of extreme coughing!  On the mend?

My wife who doesn,t have copd, caught the infection off me and needed anibiotics to shift it, still has the cough. She is a strong athletic woman and even she is struggling. It really is a nasty bug.

I know how you feel it took weeks before I got done all my coughing but when the cough was extreme than I would go outside hack up a lung and throw up but thank God its over I can just feel my lungs expand just partially. It will never be nornal again I damaged my lungs at a young age from Asthma where I had to sit up to sleep or just look out my window to calm down and watch the traffic light go green yellow and red just to calm down to relax a bit but I would rather go through this than the hell I went through as a asthmatic....I would cry so much cause I couldnt breath..that stopped at the age of 18. Now I am a week away from being 57 and I got COPD so I can handle this right now I know it will get worse as I get older but for now I am fine..

I have done some sluething and discovered there is a cough mixture which apparently WORKS!  It is called Mucomix.  There is an ingredient in it which breaks down the mucus like magic.  I have ordered it through Amazon and it has a name change over here...it is called Rebotussin.

the magic ingredient is something called guaifensin.  I will let everybody know if it works.

Today I have had a fairly quiet day in the cough department!  Perhaps some of the steaming and endless cups of hot tea and honey is helping along with the herbal preparation I am taking...who knows. Last night was exhausting as I never seemed to stop coughing!
