20 weeks on fluoxetine and so confused? Looking for support and support back

i am a 42 year old male with a tough life behind me a a very stressful job that i struggle to manage most days .

i have battled anxiety ( social and gad) for longer then i probably know , but my GP diagnoses was MAjor depression . i think all the anxiety went hand and hand with depression . once i realized these feelings were becoming not manageble , i went to my GP and he put me on Prozac . i gradually increased to 30 mgs which i stayed on for close to 3 months and i was up and down . seemed like a long week of down and anxiety ( have clonazapam to take as needed but makes me tired) and a short week of feeling ok . 3 weeks ago i increased to 40 mg and after feeling crappy for a few days , i felt well for a good week . again , i am back down and possibly lower then before . im so scared im not on the right path . can anyone relate or provide some insight as i cant live like this .

hi sorry to hear things are going great, can i ask are you having counselling CBT talking therapy as well? if not try and have some sessions you might have to see a couple to find the right one, i find meditating helps when feeling anxious and excercise even just a brisk walk for 20mins every day helps, good sleep habits and diet will help, if meds are still a problem go back to gp and discuss. most important talk to friends and family get support dont suffer in silence x good luck

    Hi,

This is the first time taking these, i have heard they do help some people but can take a while to work, unfortunately for me too many side effects so im tapering off slowly now. im going to try without with counselling, relaxation techniques etc. im sure its difficult when your working etc. you dont need to act like a tough person alot of people struggle its important to open up and admit your finding things difficult the anxiety is a symptom of the stress in your life. try and make time to relax with friends and family people will support you if you let them, the meds are meant to help but not solve the issue keep the counselling going, excercise everyday even if just a walk.... and talk. change meds if not helping and keep a diary of how you feel, if you find it hard to sleep write down your worries before going to sleep. your not alone in this life is a struggle but it can get better, baby steps .
