20mg Three Times a Day instead of 60mg in the morning?

Hi,

I've been on 60mg of Prozac for the last 3 years. It was increased to 60mg to help deal with my binge eating, as well as depression. However while it has helped my depression, it hasn't helped with binge eating. I have gained a lot of weight in the last 3 years, instead of losing weight. Which is very disappointing to me.

My question is would it be helpful to take the 60mg of Prozac in Three doses of 20mg each throughout the day?

For example 8am 20mg, 12pm 20mg and 4pm 20mg.

Instead of my current 8am 60mg.

Do you think this would help me in any way? Perhaps in losing weight? Or even further improved mood?

I have asked my psychologist this question but the answer was very, very vague and now I don't know who to ask.

Thanks

I’d like to start by saying I’m merely sharing my experience- I know everyone is different and I’m certainly not a doctor.

I’ve had body/eating issues my whole life. Wellbutrin was the first antidepressant I was ever put on, that did help with binge eating and weight control, it was not a “quick fix” but certainly helped. I actually think there is a medication today that is pretty much the same thing as well Butrans but is marketed specifically for weight loss, I cannot remember the name offhand, but it is advertised to help people lose weight that suffer from diabetes.

About two Years ago, I incorporated Lexapro into the regimen. I am not really sure what it said for my weight as I think I gained weight being on it. Anyway, fast forwarding about a year, I was put on Adderall, I don’t necessarily think I need a drug, but wanted it because others I known were taking it, and it seemed like an effective offer that did not produce anxiety. I do not know how safe the medication as pending ones ailments, but I will say that is the miracle drug for weight control and appetite control. I have lost over 40 pounds in about six months, which is probably not the healthiest for me because I was only about 160 and 5 foot eight to begin with now I am in the 130s and probably a bit too thin. However it gives you a lot of motivation, and genuinely suppresses your appetite. I was told it may not be the best long-term medication, but it’s great for people with over eating issues that need to lose weight. Again I am not a doctor just sharing my personal story. I do not think Prozac is the drug to control binge eating as I have always known it to be something to cause weight gain.
