20mg week 2

Hey all

So I've decided to bite the bullet and move up to 20mg after being on 10mg for 4mths.

The side effects aren't as bad there manageable which is a plus.

I do have pain/numbness/tingling in the back right hand side of my head (I think it's where the mind is located) I was wondering if this will go away as it's driving me crazy day in day out

Any help much appericated smile

Hi guys. I'm on day 25 of Citalopram (20mgs) and have had the same experiences as yourselves. I have to say it was absoutely awful for the first 5 days, I was a mess. But then it calmed a little and has stayed pretty much the same since. Worst for me is the sudden sharp pains in the head, which are instantly followed by hot, tingling sensation in my neck/chest and nausea. It takes some getting used to. Plus, I am reluctant to try to go asleep, as I always wake with a jump and same panicky hot flushes, chest pains etc. I'm just hoping that thes ARE all just side-effects and not something else??? My Doctor doesn't seem too concerned, just says its normal. It doesn't feel normal though does it!!!

Thanks Shelby, it is great to know that I'm not actually going stir-crazy! How long have you been taking them yourself? Any other side-effects you have noticed? Here's a little list of mine (sorry to bore you)

      night-sweats

stumbling a bit over my words

more 'floaters' than usual in my vision

aswell as headaches, feelings of pressure, like weight, in my head, very unnerving,

numbness in fingers, sometimes face etc

plus i've over 1stone in 3 weeks, without trying!

Starting to wonder if I'd been better off trying to get through things without meds.

its so frustrating isnt it? I had one good day, out of the blue, last Friday, then woke up 2am back to square one. And if anything, been slightly worse since. Worst thing is I requested these particular meds, as I know 2 people on them who never had any side effects at all. I was actually prescribed Fluoxetine a month earlier, but didn't take them. Gutted now though, wlthough I'm sure they have their own problems.

how come the Doc didn't just put you back on Fluoxetine? I actually asked for Seroxat first (i'd had these in the past and they were great) but apparently they don't do them anymore, problem with dependancy apparently?

Because I kept suffering from panic attacks and she said citalopram is a better one for that rather than fluxotine I think fluxotine is more of just an antidepressant rather than panic attacks and citalopram treats panic disorder and depression anxiety and depression do usually come together because we get so fed up with the anxiety

ahh I see, they probably wouldn't have been any good to me then as it was the return of panic attacks that started me off too. I suffered like you at your age, but around 21/22 it all started to clear, maybe your metabolism is still changing or something, and had no more attacks for over 20 years. Lets hope it's the same story for you eh?

Yeah I hope so I just want my life back but there's not quick cure for anxiety it's a slow process I've suffered from it all my life when I was young I wouldn't walk down the road on my own and stuff and then I started getting these panic attack which are horrible

Yep, they are horrible, never really get used to them. But remember the first time you had one and had no idea what the hell was happening, now we know what they are and can at least try to cope with them. I was in work when I had mine, I just went back to my desk, got my coat and went home, then resigned over the phone! The day before everything was fine! Keep your chin up, things will get better

Yeah ny attacks started by feeling really weird in my situation like I needed to get out then I wouldn't be able to breath then my eyes would go blurry then I would go pale and sweat like hell and shake and hot and cold flashes racing heart pressure in head then it would make me sick then it would all disappear
