20mth post ankle ORIF, 19 screws, new pain - surgeon won’t remove hardware

Hi all,

Some great topics, I've found my people!

47 F, Australian

Aug 2019 slipped wearing Crocs & broke tib, fib (stupid)

ED - 6 hours in waiting room as very busy (I caught a cab home when did injury & hubby drove me to hospital - more stupidity!)

Because of long wait, very swollen & had to have 1st surgery - external fixators for 2 weeks, then back & ORIF. 2 long plates, 19 screws.

6 weeks strict bed rest post 2nd op (so 8 weeks in total - did alot of reading)

6 months off work, rehab etc etc

Pain: residual stiffness & low level annoying pain, some days worse than others. Have a limp on bad days. I have developed new pain and a very tender lump at the side of my hardware on the tib. Worse when standing, leg hanging down. Heat makes it worse.

Has anyone experienced anything like this? Thank you!!!
