Hi everyone, im looking at having the gastric sleeve surgery done. its taken me a lot to realise how bad my situation has got and i feel now is the time for change. In the past 2 years ive lost 3 stone which i know isn't much in that space of time but is a miracle for me! I was wondering if anyone out there has had the gastric sleeve done themselves and could discuss it with me . Anything from procedure to the after affects and how it helped any of you would be fantastic, I would like to just make sure im doing the right thing or if the gastric by-pass would be better ( I have a bit more background on this procedure although it may be dated as my mum had it done 10 years ago) Many thanks and i look forward to your replies smile

Hi Rach, I had a sleeve fitted at Luton hospital on the NHS . I have lost a total of 61/2stone now although a stone was lost by diet at weight management course. Then had to do the milk diet (to shrink your liver) which another stone come off, so I've lost 41/2stone since the op😀. Now that maybe doesn't sound a lot but it's brought me down from size 24 to 14/16 .i'm only 4ft 10" & 16stone5lb was causing me health problems. Like diabetics & asthma. Now they are both gone & I can walk better & much better fitness levels & I'm 66 so not a youngster. The recovery is fast & you only stay in one night, eating out is tricky as I always over eat then throw up but not everyone gets the sickness. It's easier to cope with at home, meals are the size of a ramekin dish, any more & it will come back up😷 I hope that's helped you with regards to choice of by pass or sleeve let your consultant make this choice he will know which one is best for you .

    best regards Marilyn.

Thank you Marilyn, that's excellent help, I always knew portion sizes would be tiny. However I did not know about the milk diet so thank you for sharing that with me smile

      Many thanks Rachel

I didn't know about the milk diet before going to Luton ,& I must admit I come out of there thinking "I can't do this no food for 4weeks"  you have 4pts a day also sugar free jelly & an oxo or bovril drink for the salt. I woke up the next day & though I can & I will do it! . I drew up a day by day chart of the days & marked each day off as it passed (gave myself a star on the days I managed to go to the loo) *constipation is a problem, but after day 5 you get used to it & it gets easier. Good luck & feel free to message me if you need help. M x
