21 weeks on 100mg and still feel like crap

Hi All,

I am 21 weeks on Zoloft now and in the past couple of weeks I have bad days again mostly. My GP doesn't have a clue about mental health and won't give me the referal to a psychiatrist. How do I know If I should continue taking this, up the dose or completely change meds? Any thoughts welcome!

Thanks in advance!

well my first question are you in the UK or the US? If you are in the US you dont necessarily need a referral from your dr to see a psychiatrist. You can go to a mental health clinic and first see a therapist to explain everything to them, then you will get to see a psychiatrist through their clinic who will be able to help you. But it does sound like you may need a different medication or at least add another medication to your sertraline to see if that will help but a psychiatrist is the best person to speak to about medications cause regular drs dont know a damn thing when it comes to mental health! Being on sertraline that long and still struggling means it isnt doing its job properly, you are far past the period of adjustment on the medication.

what dose are you on? if your in the uk i would insist on being reffered to the mental health team. they will definetely help you. after that long i would defo up your dosage or switch or add another medication. how long on one dosage? i really hope you start feeling better soon. mental health id such a struggle.

hi did you not pursue the self refer link I sent you to the local mental health team?

I think and this is only my opinion, others may have different advice, that you have given it your best shot on this medication and maybe you need a different approach but you will not know until you have spoken to a medical professional who you can trust.

you obviously have no trust in the GP you have at the moment so my suggestion would be get on the internet, look at the NHS choices website and read the reviews for your local surgeries, find a good one and register with them.

I know this seems like another mountain to climb and you probably feel like you have neither the strength or motivation to do it but it will give you a sense of taking back some control and not feeling like a victim to this condition

time maybe to cut your losses and move on to what is next

I did call them, can't remember what was the reason I didnt get any further with them. It might be the lockdown. But thanks for reminding me I will try to call them again.
