22 days post op....thoughts on walking?

Posted , 11 users are following.

I had my surgery on Sept. 9th went back to work on the 28th, doing outpatient PT and my first one was on the 5th. As soon as I got there he said...put the cane down you don't need it. Well, I was afraid to say the least bit did it. Now I'm walking a bit at home without it too.  Anyone experience this so early in recovery? I'm hoping it just means a quick healer and things co tinge to progress.

Hi sassybees, what sort of soreness do you get? The last few days I've had a really painful spot, feels like a bad bruise, towards the outer middle of my bum. I'd been walking really well without aids inside and out, but am now back to limping again. Am paranoid I've caused something wrong with new hip by being too gung-ho getting my old life back.

I'm on day 11 today. I had 2 sticks in hospital but when I came home on day 4 I found it impossible to do anything with both hands full so I dropped down to just one stick. Today I was brushing my teeth in the bathroom and just forgot I had any sticks and walked away. After a little while I realised what i'd done......lol, just call me Mrs observant......but then I realised that I didn't really need the sticks. I will use them if I'm going on a long walk but just around the house and garden I've been fine today.

Yes I had Anterior Approach Hip Replacement and I was walking without a cane at home the 3rd week and when I started Outpatient PT they sad the same to me. I kept my cane in the car for the first 2 months just in case I had to walk far from the car, shopping, Dr's office etc.

Hi Tammy well done you! We all heal in different ways.sounds as though your healing well.I had my op back in march and because I am a carer, its taken a lot longer.where did you have your op?I had mine done at the Nuffield in Woking, but on the NHS. I know I will need my left hip & knees doing but it can wait.regards Amanda

Please don't worry Tammy. If you regularly undertake the exercises recommend by your physiotherapist, you should be rebuilding your muscle strength. Walking without aids at 22 days isn't as unusual as you think.  If you can stand on the leg that houses your new hip without wobbling too much, you should be good to go....😄  I'm 69 and have been gaily trotting around without aids since just under three weeks. I'm now 12 weeks post op - and all is great!

I'm 23 days now and I think I could walk. My problem is I have had 2 knee replacements on the same side as the hip and I think the hip surgery has changed the knee around. I have more pain in my knee than hip and am very much hoping it's just settling in. I can't walk without my knee bent. sad

Well, I went shopping and to take my daughter to dinner and for the most part walked on my own all day. I was sore at the end of the day but it felt good to walk without my cane. I just hope I'm not over doing it. My PT said I'm way ahead as far as recovery but I have no frame of reference since it's my first THR? Woke up this morning....feeling fine......hey there's a song in that 🎶🎶🎶have a great day everyone 😊
