22 years old with neuropathy, help!

I have burning pain in my hands and feet that has gotten worse over the past year. I have not been officially diagnosed, but neurontin/gabapentin makes the pain more bearable. I have an appointment with a neurologist next month, but I’m afraid that I won’t get taken seriously. My depression has gotten much worse due to the pain, and I don’t have much of a support group. I just don’t know what to do.

I have had neuropathy since my twenties. It started with tingling and pain in my hands and numbness. The neuropathy spread to both my arms due to injuries. My doctor confirmed neuropathy and offered low dose anti depressants which I refused. He supported me in my decision. I have very painful flare ups and periods of remission. I decided to live with it and not let it control my life.

Good luck. After reading many reviews not sounding hopeful. Dr tells me it's not uncommon and many cases if it. Neuropathy isn't fun.

I have neuropathy in my feet, bottom. I have had all the different tests I am told I have a minor neuropathy and was first prescribed amitriptyline but was later taken off that and put on gabapentin. Gabapentin makes me dizzy, shaky and unbalanced. I really can't take that for fear of falling. I have gone back to amitriptyline but I break the pill into 3-4 small pills. It helps to take the edge away from the pain without fully becoming pain free and without any of the side effects. You might try doing that to see if it works for you. I guess we are just stuck with this. No one can tell me what started this. Could it be walking on the treadmill and slamming my feet down runway. I believe it must be something like that otherwise, what could have caused it.

Hi, so sorry you have this condition in your life. It takes determination and many dr. visits to help you to deal with this. You now have to think of yourself as a “warrior” who has to fight everyday for your health. It is so depressing and you will are going thru a mourning for the loss of you. The new you has entered a challenging situation and everyone on this site truly understands the sadness, anger etc. that goes along with this process. Go on line and educate yourself to treatments, medications, which drs you will get the most help from. You have made a great decision with a neurologists. Accept all the help you can get and and ask for hugs, they do so help. I wish I could give you a hug right now!! You can do this, it isn’t fun but you hang in there, it is less scarey as you go along but is darn sad most of the time. You take care of you, you can do this bud! 🕊

Hi there.
I'm 28, and ditto.
Quick question - any history of an eating disorder?

You need to get your blood sugar checked. NOT just fasting, but actually have an oral glucose tolerance test. So many people develop these symptoms way before being diagnosed with prediabetes, and don't realise it, because their fasting levels are fine.
Second to this, I would look into gluten intolerance / Celiac disease. Sounds crazy, but many people develop neurological problems from eating gluten, without any digestive symptoms. Cut out ALL sugar and grains, and check the labels of any ingredients, to make sure they don't contain gluten. Might even be worth excluding dairy for a while as well. This helps many people. I've tried it for the last six weeks, with slight improvement. I can walk without pain now, though I still have widespread tingling. Now trying the keto diet, to see if that helps.
