hello everyone my name is andrew and im 23 with a brand new hip, a little background on me: i was 10 when i was told i had LCPD didngt know much about it or why out of my 3 siblings i was the only one facing this when i found out i was already in a great deal of pain the doctors kept trying to put me on crutches but i was young i wanted to run and i never stayed on them past a day, eventually my doctor said its time you have your first surgery around 13 to hold you off until you need a hip replacement, the first surgery was called a leg shelf procedure which i felt did nothing from the day of the surgery until i was 22 i lived in pain everyday to the piont i got immune to it, one day summer of 2014 i was walk down Atlantic City beach and boom i just couldnt walk anymore just like that i didnt know what was up pain like i never felt before i made my way to the ER the docs there didnt know what they where looking at on the xrays they wanted to operate right there i explained my situation they never heard of LCPD i just took the crap meds they gave me and made my way to CHOP where i had my first surgery the next day, being i was 22 they sent me to the big boy hospital Penn Hospital, The doctor was straight forward i wore out the shelf and the femur was all but gone it was time for the HR, being i was 22 and active i worked as a EMT at the time i played flag football and i was in the gym often! im like man i cant do this this isnt meant for my age group, after a little research and gaging the state of pain i was in and the fact there was no other option i said to my self lets get this over with, on sept 9th of 2014 i was blessed with a new hip mad of the finest cobalt and i can tell you almost a year later working in a warehouse on the docks 40+ hours chasing a 1 year old daughter still in the gym faithfully though long and pain full road it was i wouldnt change my life for nothing!

Hope that could inspire andyone young or old facing the a hip replacement, its not as bad as you thing and you can do it, you wont loose your life itll give a little rest if anything!cheesygrinbiggrin

Andrew, hi from the UK. I don't suppose amy of us expected to get to this point, whatever age.

After playing netball, for longer than you have been alive, surfing, walking around Europe etc, I assumed that I was doing everything to keep my body fit and healthy.

If I felt let down by my body at 52 then I can't imagine what you felt.

What doesn't change, and doesn't matter how old or young you are, is attitude.

I believe that believing that life is going to be good will make as good as it can get.

My friend said to me "You may have a temporarily disabled body but you haven't got a disabled brain".

She is right, live in the moment, live for today and you are certainly doing that.

pee ess I don't intend to go back to netball but the sea is always waiting for me

    Hi andrew

What an inspiring story and thank you for sharing it with us

I am sure it will help those young THR patients like yourself and also us older ones- 63 but going on 23 in the head!

THR joins us all together in this fabulous forum - I showed it to my surgeon the day after my op and he was amazed that something like this existed.

I think he was quite pleased that I had actually mentioned him on here!

Enjoy your wonderful life with your little one and I hope you go from strength to strength

    Kindest  regards Linda xx
