23 years of extreme stomach pains and ready for a real diagnosis.

When I was 2 I was given antibiotics because I had a sinus infection. Shortly after, I began to have extreme stomach pain to where I was being hospitalized once a week. So they removed my appendix. The stomach pains continued so they tested more and found out I was allergic to the antibiotics and they gave me a stomach ulcer. So I took Zantac for 20 years. After about 18 years, the Zantac no longer helped when I had a stomach "attack." So I started to look into other solutions. We did testing and found out that my stomach ulcer had healed itself, so that was good news. But the stomach pains did not get any better. Realizing that being on medicines my whole life, started to seem like the wrong solution so I contacted a holistic doctor. And what do you know, I had been on the Zantac for so long that my stomach stopped producing it's own acid to break down foods. So I then started taking hydrochloric acid, while being closely observed by this doctor. The acid helped for about a month, and when I lowered the dosage ever month like presrcribed, it seemed to work. Until I got to the lowest dosage, I could feel my body rejecting the hydrochloric acid and it felt like I had acid reflux. So I stopped this medication. I started to look into the usage of antibiotics in meat products and for a while I stopped eating meat. This, again, helped for about 2 months. And then my body had another "stomach attack." I have tried everything, from FODMAP, to gluten free, I know I am lactose intolerant so I avoid dairy, I don't eat acidic foods, I barely eat meat and when I do it's antibiotic free or hunted by someone I know. I don't eat soy, I don't eat sugar, I don't drink often, I honestly eat mainly fruits, vegetables, and rice. But everyonce and a while I still have these stomack attacks that are so powerful and have me puking for hours. I've been given medicines for just about everything and my body is tired of these countless chemicals being tossed around. I'm losing hope and I'm starting to wonder if it's maybe something wrong with the way my body works. Maybe it's not the food I'm eating. But I don't know what to do anymore. Any suggestions or directions to point me in would be so appreciated.

Oh yes and to top it off, I was born with intussiception. Is this maybe a result of that I am just living with for the rest of my life? Kind of like a birth defect?

Hi Amber - totally aggree with Vergils advice. You certainly have been let down by the system. I do think though that you have worked it out for yourself that you really need a fundamental doctor that will find the root cause of your health issues rather than use the bandaid solution. I never got to the severe stomach aches that you have but I did get rid of duodenal ulcers by increasing the mucosal lining and dropping all PPI's, adding rock salt back into my diet to make acid naturally, taking two DGL before each meal, aloevera and slippery elm once a day with 4 spoons of ACV on rising. I recently stumbled on a book. This was written 10 years back but it did detail a lot of studies in Japan using zinc carsonie (a supplement also called Pepsin I think) anyway I'm pretty sure it is working well on me. I have tried all tge depravation/ elimination ideas you mentioned and it is impossible to tell if they have done anything. The zinc thingy without doubt has done the most. Hope this message gets to you and doesnt get eaten by the automatic moderation!

Thank you for answering. My ulcer has healed itself which is indeed good news. Sometimes zinc triggers an attack so I only take it sparingly. I am starting to research the long term effects of Intussusception and I have not come across much information. I did read that if the damaged organ is removed, that it is possible (but rare) for there to be longterm problems. The removed my appendix during this surgery when I was an infant and I am starting to think maybe that is the overall problem. The only thing is that all I can find online is that it is rare for long term problems to persist. But I cannot find anywhere what these rare conditions/ problems are.

    Hi,

Sorry to hear that you have been suffering for so long. Have you tried looking into natural doctors not sure the exact term but doctors who use more of a natural approach to cure diseases instead of medication? The way to increase stomach acid production is take zinc and vitamin b supplements this may help. Also look into probiotics they heal array of stomach issues and AT WORST they will do nothing. Exercising helps me with my issues with my stomach as I am healing from ulcers and its a stress release. Breathing exercises might be helpful for you when have an "attack". Best of luck, always remember medication is a short term fix in a sense to give you that extra help in the right direction but the training wheels always need to always come off.

Thanks for your reply. I have seen a few holistic (natural) doctors, they told me to do the hydrochloric acid. I take vitamin b every day as well as a few other naturally sourced vitamins. I drink chamomille and Kombucha when it's available, and that seems to help sometimes. And I do yoga everyday, I even got certified to teach a couple years ago. I don't take any medicine anymore after all of the intolerances and reactions I've had. I've learned lots of ways to semi-manage my stomach attacks when they happen but I really just want  to find the root cause and for them to go away forever.
