24/7 feeling like I am dying

so for years i have had 'episodes' of what i believe may have been anxiety with mostly physical symptoms, no depression etc. however since dec last year my physical symptoms have gradually become worse and worse to the point where they consume my life 24/7. even when i am sleeping i keep waking up with a pounding heart. a typical day for me starts with waking early with adrenaline rushes, i get out of bed and feel like my legs cant take me down the stairs for shaking. my whole body then shakes as though i need sugar but even after food i still feel the same. i am constantly dizzy, im now scared to go outside because my legs dont want to take me. i constantly feel like i have a tight band around my rib cage so i cant take a full breath. i am breathless with any sort of exertion and i literally feel like i am dying. i have had blood tests and i was iron deficient but now my results are normal so its not that. its the constant shakiness and being out of breath and dizzy thats making me feel like i cant even go out. i just feel as though i am dying, ive thought ive got MS, brain tumour, adrenal tumour, heart failure. ive tried relaxation, meditation, CBT and nothing is helping. surely there has to be some underlying cause for these constant feelings and its not just anxiety?

i just dont understand how i can feel so bad. I find it so hard explaining how bad i am feeling because to everyone i look 'physically' ok. Yesterday I felt like I had a break through and didnt feel as bad and today has been the complete opposite and this is what i dont get. ive wondered if its something ive eaten but ive cut down on gluten and i dont drink caffiene anymore. its like my whole body stiffens up and i walk around crouched over and feeling like im holding my breath but its my body making me do it because im trying my best not to. this is why i think i have something wrong with me

same, this virus is making things so difficult. people say by having to stay at home is a good thing to work on your anxiety etc but when you dont think you have anxiety (but then also dont know what you do have) its so frustrating. im like how do i stop feeling like this

Hi Melissa,
I can totally relate. For me it started just before christmas 2019. I ended up in the emergency room with a rapid heart rate and high blood pressure. They immediately did chest x-rays, took blood and hooked me up on the ekg. Aside from the rapid heart rate and blood pressure everything was normal at that time. Shortly after I came down with a fever that lasted 5 days. Even after recovering from that I never felt right. I've since had blood drawn 4 times, another round of chest x-rays and tested for multiple different infections. Everything clear. I have been convinced that I've got cancer the majority of the time and they're just not catching it. My doctor assures me I'm not dealing with cancer, but I cant completely shake the thought. I get real physical symptoms as well. Random aches and pains all over my abdomen, a lot of times on either side just under my ribs. My guts are all over the place. Dr thinks that could be due to aggravated ibs, but it scares me...and now I've had a sore throat for near a month. All things considered I too have a hard time accepting its just anxiety. I've been on 20mg of citalopram since early January and its helped a lot, but by no means am I what I would consider normal for myself.
Just wanted to respond and let you know you are not alone.
cheers,

thanks i know there are so many people in the same boat, its just so hard to accept. i feel like i dont get the 'typical' anxiety symptoms such as racing heart etc. i just feel like my body and my limbs all seize up and wont work and then like i cant breathe. i cant seem to stop hunching and holding my breath all the time. im glad your feeling better slightly on your medication x

That's interesting I have anxiety/panic disorder. Current events have exacerbated symptoms. Shortness of breath, chest tightness, muscle tension.
I like yourself have had a sore throat for about a month now, and given I've been suffering pretty much constant shortness of breath for more than a week consistently, I begin thinking I have Covid-19 as respiratory issues are one of the symptoms.
It's all driving me crazy and I want it to end. Do you have nay idea why you have a sore throat? I've been trying to rationalise. I am 42, I know I may also be in peri-menopause and there are some really strange symtptoms with that too so...It's anyones guess really. Ugh.

Loona,
I have no idea why I have a sore throat other than I've been told the anxiety can cause a lot of tension and mouth breathing. The sensations can be a result of tight muscles mixed with a dry throat? It tends to dissipate when I'm eating, then return shortly after. Look up the globus sensation when you have a chance and see if it seems relevant to you.
Melissa,
I have the same issue, I feel like a lot of the things I experience don't necessarily feel like typical anxiety symptoms, but my doctor has told me multiple times he sees no need to do any further testing on account he is "certain" it's just anxiety. Hard for me to wrap my mind around it.
Christina,
I'm sorry to hear you had to experience that as well. Hopefully we are all just stressed out and can move forward sooner than later.

Hey, I used to get the stiffness you are speaking about. When my anxiety was at its worst I used to feel like i could not type on my keyboard because my fingers would become so rigid it was as if they could not bend! So I would have to stop and come off of my laptop. Every morning my legs would ache so bad it felt like I had done a heavy workout the night before. I used to think I was seconds away from imminent death or would collapse with weakness at any moment. There was nothing physically wrong with me and over time once my anxiety decreased so did these sensations. I still get those random adrenaline rushes now when I am doing something random like cleaning my house. When it comes I recognise how it makes me suddenly feel weak and dizzy with an increase in my pulse and weak legs! If you have been tested then I would say it is likely Anxiety. The adrenaline wreaks havoc on our bodies.

i can relate all too well. i have been dealing with all of my symptoms for about 3 years now. numerous trips to the er, numerous ekg's echocardiogram, stress test, CT, blood work everything. always comes back normal. the symptoms used to come and go but for the last couple of months i feel my symptoms 24/7. if I'm not sleeping its happening. This has ruined so many things for me in my life. you're not alone.
