Hi I have had an endoscopy before but never a camera inserted for 24 hours! I would imagine it is the same process but rather than taking the camera out it is kept in. The camera can cause a sore throat and discomfort but it shouldn't last more than a few days after your observation. I would advise you to do it as it will answer questions and allow the Dr to see what is going in firsthand! I have an endoscopy booked on Monday and am really hoping they come to a conclusion on what is causing acid reflux. I think a 24 hour observation is a good way to find the root cause of the problem. Good luck! Hope it goes well.

Hi there, I had this 24 test done this week and can confirm it is not painful, the tube is very thin, it is a bit awkward to eat and drink but not too bad, my throat was slightly sore for a day after but like the other persons says if it gives you the answer it has got to be a good thing. You cannot take any PPI's for five days running up to the test as the readings won't be true, this has been the biggest problem for me as I have been refluxing for 5 days and now have a very unhappy oesophasus!!! Good luck!

Thanks, I am fed up with all of this, I too have tried everything over the years but nothing helps. Like you the pain is the worst. I only know as far as your app is concerned that this test at my Hospital is only done at a certain time of the month, not everyday like the other endoscopy's. The chap who did it was a clinical scientist as I mentioned he tests your oesophagus for motility. I ended up calling my consultants secretary several times to push all of this along!! Like all the tests, just a waiting game. For your info whilst I was there the chap put my date straight into the computer and said straight away it showed I was refuxing nearly all the time, he now has to send a report to my consultant. Good luck and do let me know how it all goes. This condition is miserable at best, love xx

The only way I can survive when its really bad is eating very small amounts of bland food, vegetable soup etc. I gave up drinking a few years ago to try and help this (I did smoke for a couple of years too) - wine was my love but it really creates acid in my case. Try and have a good glug of Gaviscon before bedtime and don't eat anything late in the evening - sometimes helps. Good luck and do keep trying for the appointment:

Hi, I've had this done recently and just to clarify it's not a camera, it's a measurement probe that measures the pressure and acid in your oesophagus attached to a computer you wear and input when you are coughing/have acid/eating/sleeping. I didn't find it that uncomfortable for the 24 hours apart from sleeping as the tube was taped to the side of my face I sleep on. It was great for scaring off cold callers when you answer the door with the tube up your nose!!
The 24 hour manometry is the 'gold standard' for diagnosis of more difficult reflux problems. My symptoms are mainly so-called silent reflux but it's not really silent in my case as I'm coughing all the time!!
As a result of that and the gastroscopy I'm going to have the laparoscopic Nissen's surgery in a couple of months as I've had these symptoms for over four years. Hope that is of some help
