24hr ph acid test

Hi there

I have suffered from a hiatus hernia for the past 7 years now. Had the endoscope, told hiatus hernia, given various different medication with seemed to work at first, but my symptoms seem to have got worse over the years.

Finally after after 6 years went back for further endoscope, only to find I have several polyps which were removed.

I was then put onto nexium, and finally sent for a 24hr ph acid test. I am waiting for the results of this test.

I just interested to know if anyone else has had this test done.

Ive had the 24hr monitor. Apart from being absolutely disgusting I got my results back and I had a 20% build up of acid, the normal range should be 4.

I am going in 4 an operation to have my hiatus hernia repaired and a band put at the bottom of my oesophagus to help with the reflux.

[quote:4c68b7913d]A thin, small tube with an acid sensing device on the tip is gently passed through your nose, down the esophagus (\"food tube\"wink, and positioned about 2 inches above the lower esophageal sphincter. The tube is secured to the side of your face with clear tape. The end of the tube exiting from your nose is attached to a portable recorder that is worn on your belt or over your shoulder. The recorder has several buttons on it that you will press to mark certain events. A nurse will review the monitoring instructions with you.
