27 and due for Hysterectomy August/September

Hi all,

I'm 27 and I'm due to be having a hysterectomy in around 3 months time. I'm very nervous but have been having regular doses of prostap. I

It all started when I first started my periods at 12 years of age. I thought it was amazing when I had my first period I felt so grown up, but then a month passed by and I got my second. It was the worst feeling in the world.

We left it a couple of months then my mum started taking me to the doctors, who all kept saying it was normal to be doubled over in pain every month and bleed really heavily. Everytime they'd just prescribe me with something different or put me on a dfferent pill to "ease" the monthly symptoms.

When I turned 16/17 I finally got referred to Gynae where the consultant was adamant that I had IBS, but my mum put her foot down and wanted some sort of investigation doing. so he agreed to have an ultrasound. One month later I went to see the consultant again and they'd found a 3cm ovarian cyst so I had to be booked in for a laparoscopy.

6 months later the pain started up again so had to go through the GP to then be referred to Gynae...Agan. SO it was the same again went for ultrasound found another cyst and had to go in for another laparascopy or so I thought. Turns out it was a tumour and they had to do a laparotomy. Thankfully it wasn't cancerous. But the consultant did tell us that I may not be able to have children but they would cross that bridge when it came to me trying for a family.

I had a good couple of months of recovery time. I then carried on and thought everything was fine and then a year later they'd found another cyst which had to be removed through a laparascopy.

I then met someone (my now husband) who I told the whole situation to and he was very understanding.

At this point I was still really suffering really badly with painful and heavy periods. But he was great. A year later I found out I was pregnant with my son (now age 6) and the pain stopped it was the best 9 months of my life I felt fab and was truly blessed to give birth to a very healthy boy by emergency c-section.

Not long after giving birth to my son everything started up again so the doctors decided to try me with the implant. That was horrible and 3 months later had to have it taken out.

On my sons 2nd birthday I had to go to theatre as was rushed into hospital. They decided to take my appendix out even though there was nothing wrong. But I did however have a cyst that had burst. Then that was the end of that saga.

They kept saying that I had PCOS but uo until last year I felt like I was banging my head against a wall. They tried me on prostap and I felt great and they've now come to the conclusion that I need a hysterectomy so went to see the consulatnt 2 days ago and she has bumped me up the list cos the last lot of prostap had worn off and i was in agony from last wednesday that I took myself to a&e just so I could have something stronger for the pain.

You can only have a years worth of prostap and I've already had 10months worth of rostap hence why they've bumoed me up the list. I also had to lose weight and I've lost over 1 and half stone in 3 months. SO I'm ready now.

Very scared though as I'm only 27. I've also got HRT start taking in a month so that my body gets used to it before my operation. I've heard so many bad things but I've also heard good things I just need advice really on what to expect.

Sorry for babbling on.

Hayley

Hi Hayley, I'm booked in for one at the end of June so I'll let you know how it went. :-) I have a septated right ovarian cyst with some nodularity on its posterior wall. My CA125 blood test was normal.  So I'm having an hysterectomy and right sapingo oophorectomy and possibly an omental biopsy depending what they think the cyst is.
