2cm hiatal hernia hill grade 3, 15 yrs post gastric bypass.

I was rushed to the hospital on thanksgiving day with what i thought was the worst stomach flu ever till my body starting cramping up severely.

Turned out after nine days in ccu that my sodium levels dropped to a critical level.  They also found the hernia..

I dont have the normal heart burn, but i have a pressure and burning in my upper abdomen, i get short of breath just talking, i burp or get hiccups, somtimes my heart feels likes it beating out of my chest. Most of the time i am constipated.  Sometimes when I use the restroom it feels like my intestine is jumping up and cramping and I push it down and have to stand. After not all, meals I feel like I have to lay on my stomach for about 15 min.  It seems as though my stomach blew up like a baloon.

I have had most of these symptoms for the last year on and off.  I just blamed it on the gastric bypass I had 15 years ago.  Now my surgeon is confering with a Bariatric surgeon.  I am worried & then I think Im fine.  But then I try doing something and I get so weak.

Has anybody out there experienced this?

?Sorry so long

This sound like what I get from time to time....even more lately. This may be from your hernia which needs to be repaired or from an intestinal obstruction.  This is scar tissue which can form anytime after abdominal surgery. I went to the ER with this a year ago September. They put an NG tube up my nose and into my intestines to drain from above the abstraction. After 4 days in the hospital with an NG tube it went away. Some have surgery, but surgery causes more scar tissue.  To me it sounds like a vicious circle.

If the intestinal obstruction isn't repaired you can die. I keep having bouts with a partial obstruction forming after 3 abdominal surgeries.  The first was my appendix ruptured then 2 hernia surgeries. My last surgery was in May.  A partial obstruction, to my know, edge, cannot be fixed.  You have to wait for dire pain and a full obstruction. Then rush to the ER.

I know this doesn't help any, but I also don't understand why your doctor can't tell you more. Why do you have to resort to an Internet forum?

    Good luck and take care.

As luck would have it my G/F suffers from scar tissue problems from a  gastric bypass surgery, it was 12 years ago so thats when they did the old fashioned cut you wide open bypass. She has a lot of the same symptems.

It is horrible.  You feel like a ticking time bomb waiting for it to go off. My doctor even said that while traveling, I shouldn't be too far from a hospital.  This means, no hiking through the forest. I wasn't planning on that anyway😉
