Hi I had RTHR on June 28 my second THR is scheduled for December 27. I'm kind of chicken ing out! my left is not giving me the pain the right one did, it just makes my leg ache. I want to have it done by same doctor and get a matching set but,not really wanting to go through it again so soon. What would update do?

Thanks

Lorrena

If you are scheduled get it over with. The longer you wait the harder it becomes.

as the joint continues to deteierate you may be risking bone necrosis, pseudotumors, bone spurs . Your doctor needs healthy good bone for a successful THR.,it would not be scheduled it it was not needed.

It tough to go there again but in 3 short months it's over and your on to a better quality of life never wonder it you should a, would a have done it.

I need a revision in one hip and and cup replacement in the other it's not fun bit it's really all about a better quality of life, even if we need a rough up every now and then.

we hippies are a tough group!

Thanks for your Input! I know you are right but I'm dreading the 90 degree thing and sleeping on my back let alone no job foe 6 to 8 weeks.

But I will try and not chicken out.

Mine was a day before you (June 27th) but I'm planning on doing the next one in the summer. That's because I'm a single parent of a 9 yr old and he needs to be out of school.

But you now have the experience behind you, and you now know it's a temporary life setback for permanent life improvement. I'd try to focus on that, but fear is totally natural and expected.

    You can do it!

I'm also single so I'm my only income that's part of being a chicken.

Lorrena I would say wait. But this is my opinion. Ask your dr if waiting is ok. I myself couldn't do it again! At least not for a long while. But I don't know your specific problem and if waiting is a good idea or not. But if you can, I say wait! 🤓🤗LD

I waited 2 years and within a couple of months I will have my 2nd done.  I probably should have done it sooner but waited. I wasn't nervous the first time but now I know what to expect and I am nervous about the 2nd time.  However, I feel like - better now than later.

I know the Feeling! I'm just not sure I want to go through it again!

Honestly I don't think any body really wants to go through it.  What are your options?  You could try some exercises that will help to give relief if you are experiencing a lot of pain. The reason I waited 2 years was because my doctor wanted to be sure I was 100% able to support myself on my new (left) hip and it didn't hurt that much. I did however start having back pains about a year after the operation and over time it has gotten worse.  Now I have back and hip pains and it affects my life style (work included) in a negative way.

My doctor also told me if I was ever in doubt I should not do it.  I guess at the end of the day it depends on what feels right for you.

      Good luck

I am in similar position. Had my right THR in July. That worked great. Now I am walking straight and doing the stretching exercises I am not having the pain in my left hip, just stiffness. I will prob wait till it starts impacting on my life before proceeding with next op as it is a rather major thing to go through. I suppose it depends on how much it is affecting you.

Hi there, Just to let you know I had left hip replacement on Dec 11th 2014. It was February 2015 when my surgeon told me my other one would need replacing. Wasn't expecting this. I was put on the waiting list in September last year so of course I was dreading it too. Ended up getting a phone call from the hospital on Dec 24th saying my op date was Jan 18th! Trouble was I was in no pain walking. Only had pain bending, getting on and off chairs, loo, bed and in and out of car etc. So I saw surgeon on Jan 5th and expected him to cancel op when I said I'd no problem walking. But he didn't! He said that if I don't have the Op, things would only get worse, so he arranged me a date. April 7th, then April 14th. Both were cancelled for Junior Doctors strikes. Jan 18th was cancelled as nobody would. have been home to look after me after the op. Finally date was April 28th. Ideal as hubby was home all the time following his retirement. But I understand you chickening out because I did too.

    Hi Lorrena

?I felt exactly the same leading up to my 2nd Op. I had my LTHR six months ago and had RTHR last Thursday.  I too nearly chickened out.... I went through a variety of emotions and questioning whether I wanted to go through it all so soon, especially when my Rheumtoid was flaring up as well and I felt I was still recovering from first op. How would I cope? Would I be mentally and physically strong enough.  I also had "well meaning" people, who have never had a HR asking why I am not pursing anterior or super pathways approaches or stem cell. That really annoyed me.    So after many tears and emotional roller coaster rides,  I went back to see my surgeon who is not only an amazing surgeon/man but has the kindest ma!nner  (well known in my area as Dr McDreamy). He took the time to talk to me and listen to my concerns and we worked through them together.  I trust my surgeon 100% and put my faith in him that this was the right decision.   Plus my gut instinct told me it was (eventhough the right didn't have as much pain either as the left I wondered if I could tough it out.. but end result would always be I needed the replacement at some stage). After our discussion,  I immediately felt so relieved and calm in my decision to proceed with 2nd replacement.  Once I felt happy with decision, I then spent the remaining time leading up to 2nd op to get as fit and strong as I could (I also have an awesome functional physio) and to get my mind space back into positive mode.  It wasn't easy and I was still very emotional about having to go through it again, but I knew I made the right decision.    Time flies so fast, and this will soon be behind me.

?I guess what I am trying to say is if you have a good surgeon, trust him - they really don't do it unless necessary - and have confidence in yourself.    We all get through it in different ways . I reckon us "hippies" are pretty tough people and we do what we have to do to lead a better quality of life.  Good luck and whatever decision you make, it is your decision.. noone elses.

    cheers

    ?Mon

I had my rthr done in March. I was recovering nicely but after 2 months my left hip got so bad that I couldn't walk well enough to continue strengthening my right hip. I had my left hip replaced almost 7weeks ago and no more pain but strengthening has been slow. My legs have gotten week.
