Hi I am 3 month r t h r and have my second booked for 10th Jan , I am a very nervous person and previously cancelled several times before finally going under the knife .

I don't think it was as bad as I had anticipated but was still quite an ordeal so here I am again and to make matters worse my physio told me the second is often a lot worse than the first so now I'm loosing sleep and wondering if I can do this , can anyone advise and give me an insight into their own experience? thank you for reading , best wishes , Angie

    Hi Angie,

It's normal to be nervous. I will be 10 of January 3 months after

left hip and in March my right hopefully will be done as well.

I'm scared as well but on onother hand I know what to expect.

Second hip replacemen not have to be so painful like first.

I don't have any experience with open of two hips but I want to

have done soon. My non operated hip getting worse Because I'm putting more strain on it. It will be nice not to have a pain.

Don't worry im sure all will be fine. You know what to expect

Relax and may the second hip replecmant will much easier than first.Good luck and dont wory.

    Hug Madla

Hi Angie, me too, I saw 4 surgeons and cancelled 3 times for ops, it took me 2 years to go ahead with my Left anterior op in October this year. I was sooooo nervous. It's still early days for me but I have been having more pain in my other bad hip since the op. My operated hip is very nervy and touchy but seems to be going as planned. I too have to have my other one done but will wait at least a year I think, your next date seems way to early for my liking. Don't like what the physio told you either! Would it be better to wait until your operated hip really feels 100% again....just wondering!

Whatever you decide good luck x

Hi Angie - goes without saying that everyone and every situation can be a little different. But my own thr's were roughly 3 months apart - late April and early August of this year. After the right hip in April I never made the expected recovery because my left hip was in so much worse condition than I knew. When I stopped taking the heavy duty pain killers I was in misery and barely mobile. The recovery from the 2nd surgery (left hip) was a totally new ball game. Now a bit more than 4 months later everything is just getting better and better! - Kat

    hi angie,

I agree with previous posts, darling --- it is normal to feel nervous and anxious ..

I was so nervous before my 2nd THR surgery that I needed anti anxiety medication -

Like Kat here on the forum, I did not recover well after 1st THR surgery and at follow up appointment, other hip showed that cartilage had rapidly declined ...

I don't understand people like your PT ? Who are they to tell these things anyway ...

You will have TWO brand new hips and healing can finally and fully begin ..

I am not saying to not worry - you will anyway ... it will be all right, you know ...

come back here anyime you have a question or concern, okay ? does not matter what you want to share ... sharing and being heard is important in this journey ..

    big warm hug

Aww Renee, how comforting your words are , I'm humbled that folk who've never met care enough to reassure each other in their hour of need !

I love to hear how well you are doing and also what you have learnt along the way you are willing to share so us new hippys are better prepared

      Keep posting , I will too and here's to a pain free 2017 !! X

that is the power of this forum ..other forums too, I bet, but this is where I find kindred spirits ..

this whole journey can be and is so overwhelming - we have all these emotions and feelings and nobody seems to understand ... and we don't want to be a nag or whimp ... what a blessing to find people who only need one word and totally understand what you mean ...

They have pulled me through 2 THR surgeries ... and many "graduates" are here with me ...

you are not alone in this, Angie

      angel blessings

Hi Angie I am 3 weeks post op on my tlhr i had my right one done in september so there was only 9 weeks between my ops i have found it a lot harder with the second op walking standing everything really i was black and blue after 1st hip op and yet hardly any brusing but loads of swelling afer the left one they really couldnt be more different i wish now i would have waited to have second one done at least a few months longer as i still had hip precautions on the right hip when i had the left done and am still getting knee and ankle pain in the right one so if its not pain from one leg its the other. My gp has been great and has prescribed me more of the oxecodone fast release which i take only at night now and also have the liquid form so if i have a lot of pain during the night i can take it with fast results. The only problem with waiting longer is if your pain is severe in the bad hip which mine was so i really was in a lose lose situation. Everyone is different though and several people say the second op is easier this is just my experience but hopefully you will have a speedy recovery with not too much pain.thinking of you tracy xx

Hi Angie I had my left hip replaced last feb and I am booked to have my right one done on 9th Jan and can't wait. I am hoping that I get as good result as I did for my left. I know the road after the op is a long one but still hoping to get my life back instead of feelING in pain all the time. I am feeling positive. To be be honest the op part is the easy part it's the recovery I found the hardest but I will just take little steps at a time as I did before. Good luck with your op maybe we could follow one another as our dates are so close.xx

Hi Angie RTHR in July so I'm 5 months all is good. I wanted it done ASAP. But everyone is different. I think you'll be fine with second one at three months. I had both knees done two years ago, three months apart, and that all went well. Do your exercises and don't push it too hard and you'll be fine. Good luck.
