Hi All,

just wanted to see everyones advice regarding limping.

I'm 3.5 months post op from ORIF and just recently returned back to work and have been limping pretty bad and also in a lot of pain. Inner ankle throbs, not

sure if its the screw but its a constant sharp pain since returning. I am walking around a good amount and trying to sit as much as possible. Very hard on me right now... any advice/ideas??

i can feel all the hardware i have screws and long screw from one side of my ankle to the other my ortho said that long screw can come out now but I havent made an appt for that

He said they just make small hole and he backs it out with a drill then u go home

i just dont want to cause any issue that would make me go backwards

How far along are you? UGH the thought of removal freaks me out because its like breaking it all over again I feel like. Bone has to fill in the holes, PT again etc. I wonder how the removal process was for

others.... I really think thats what im feeling the outer hardware doesnt seem to bother me like the long screw that is vertically on an angle in my inner ankle (fractured the medial mallelelous & fibula)

If you decide to get the hardware removed please keep me posted!! hope you feel better, hang in there

Ill let u know if I decide to get it out

      My surgery was 7/11.

I feel like Im in a pretty good place now with my recovery and nervous that the screw removal might set me back and I dont want that

But from what the doctor said its no more than an office visit. They just numb it make small hole and back the screw out

Of course its not their ankle!

He said then Ill just walk out

      We will see

I go back for what I assume will be my final visit in about 10 days

Until then Ill continue with my PT

Heyyyy. I just finished with PT Rehab Center. On several different occasions, I spoke with my PT about the pain on the inner ankle where the long screw is. She assured me each time that it is normal however in 6 mos +/- if it is still bothering me, the screw removal is no big deal. Same day surgery, quick recovery! Also assured me that by that time (or before) the screw will have served its purpose.

Hope this helps you guys to hear this!

yes thats what my doctor told me as well

      how are u enjoying PT?

      I really like it

I have one more visit this week then I cut back to once a week

Hi Sandra. I finished PT last week. It was challenging, but really helpful too. Now it is up to me to practice what I was taught. I miss it already & heck it was getting me out of the house!

I got a little gizmo online so I could do Gua Sha at home. My PT told me to keep using it. Said she could really tell a difference in regards to my scar tissue. It was inexpensive & I declare it helps.!! There is lots of info on the www and also utube!

I have one more appt for PT this week then I go to once per week

Im going to join local gym here for a couple of months to ride bike, use other equipment to rebuild my strength

Iffffff you think about it, would you let us know how that helps? And what specifically? I sure have thought about it but undecided. Our "local" gym seems very nice yet logistically am not so convinced it could work out for me. We moved cross country a little over a year ago and we had quite a few snows around here!

Sure, I will let you know

My thoughts were to use treadmill, stairmaster and bike.

Im an avid walker and just figured the gym would be a more controlled atmosphere instead of outdoor walking right now

My health insurance covers me for $5 per month for gym.

My PT is $35 copay a visit!

I have about 2 more weeks PT
