3 hernias in 5 months

Hi all, I am new to this site so I don't know what to expect but I would like some advice.

My 12 year old son was taken into hospital in may this year with what Doctors thought was testicular torsion due to a hydrocele in his right testicle and severe pain. He was taken for surgery and it turned out that the hydrocele was formed due to an inguinal hernia, it had become strangulated, which was what was causing the pain, so it was repaired there and then and the next day he was sent home.

Two months later another inguinal hernia appeared on the left and due to what had happened with the first one the Dr's didn't want to wait so performed surgery rather quickly and repaired it during day surgery.

It has been 3 months since then and now it seems another hernia has popped out, this time on the right again but about an inch above where the first one was. He is due to see his gp next week but I am just wondering, is this common? 3 separate hernia's in 5 months?

Any info would be appreciated

Many thanks

It doesn't happen to everyone but it's not that uncommon. In the last eleven months I have had three separate surgeries for four

different hernias.Just under three weeks ago I had to have a third operation to repair my very most painful hernia ever which was a

left femerol. herrnia.in total I have now had seven hernias!! Three of them were back in the 90's,and now 4 more this year!!From my research

It can happen. my surgeon and I joked about just closing me up with

    Velcro.

Hi Mary thanks for your reply.

If only velcro would work haha, I'm just worried as he's 12 (13 in 3 months) and going through puberty and changes in that area anyway so I'm concerned that all the messing about down there might affect his development.

The first surgery he had on his testicle had a risk factor of fertility problems later in life so I'm just concerned about that.

Also it seems like when they repair one it pops out in another place and I'm just wondering if this keeps happening will he eventually have to have a bigger operation to fix the problem permanently.

I understand your concerns...I was in my thirties with first three, now in my upper fifties. The other thing you won't likely be warned about up front is that t

he mesh that's used in hernia repairs is the same stuff that there are thousands of lawsuits going on about

In its use in gyro surgery!! I would ask to have your sons repairs done without the mesh.Read up on what

Horrible suffering that can occur with the mesh repairs.I suffered for 24 years from my body rejecting the mesh.I knew when they used it in me without asking me first

That it was a problem, they blew me off.Research "meshoma.I found a excellent female surgeon in Beverly Hills who was willing to not only do the repairs, but she removed the tormenting mesh.

There are not many surgeons who are willing to remove it,or do the surgery without using the mesh.I can't state enough check this subject out and try to find a surgeon that knows how to do the surgery without the use of mesh.If you were in the U.S. I would recommend the surgeon I have!!
