3 month check up went well- however, emotionally really down.

Hello group!. i had my 3 month check up yesterday. All looks good. and Surgeon said I should be able to walking normally .Physio said I would never walk perfect because of hip dyplasia and Charcot marie tooth condition. The surgeon doesnt know why the physio would say that. I do have a limp still after THR. The surgeon thinks it will go away with excersise. Its all good news, X-ray looks great. Then why do I feel so bad and sad. My partner thinks its great news but I feel so ugly and cant lose weight. Its great to have this forum to read other peoples stories. Everyone is different.

Beatrice, we all get to feel like this, it will pass. I used to think i wasnt doing well enough, yet everyone including the surgeon said i was doing great. Did limp for a while but it does get better the stronger the muscles get. I am 14 months post op now and when i get tired I veer to the right when walking. I have to stop and straigten myself up. My hip is amazing. You will get to feel like this, treat yourself to a nice aromatherapy massage. It does wonders for how you feel. I still havent lost weight infact i have put it on despite exercising. You have to be in the right mind and 4 months post surgery isnt it. Focus on something you really like about yourself. Big hugs xx

    Hi beatrice,

oh dear ... Why do people say such things??? How do they know anyway ...

I don't know what to tell you ... so much healing is needed and still taking place, you know - your body needs so much energy -

It takes time for the body, mind, and soul to recover from this invasive operation.

A great deal of the recovery takes place in the first two months, but complete return to normal takes longer. Bone around the metal parts keeps changing and remodeling for 1 to 2 years after surgery.

At the same time you are learning to walk again, keep your body in balance - easy to going back to pre-surgery habits .

I wish I could tell you not to worry about not walking perfectly, yet ... or not being able to lose weight, yet ... it will come ... it takes time -

try not to beat yourself up so much - you are an amazing person and doing great ...

come back here anytime okay ?  writing out what you are feeling is vey therapeutic and most of us understand exactly what you're talking about ..

sending you light, love and healing

    big warm hug

    Hi Beatrice

?I have an ankle condition, and whilst my hip is going great guns, it still remains to be seen whether I will totally regain a "normal walk". We may. We may not. You know what - it doesn't matter exclaim? We are a great deal better than we were a few weeks ago, and we are going to get better still. If you are left with a slight limp, that doesn't make you ugly. And the limp you have now doesn't make you ugly. And nor does the bity of extra weight you are carrying (who isn't after months of pain when walking?). We are ALL beautiful people - the outer wrapping isn't what makes people beautiful, it's whats inside. So you are a beautiful person. Just hold on to that and don't worry about that limp. Just keep up the exercises.

?And when we are all feeling better and have nothing else to swop stories about, we can all get down to the important stuff like low calorie soup recipes - I have a doozy for the greatest tomato soup!

?But right now, concentrate in feeling better and stronger. That's all you need to do.

Many of us (probably most of us) get 'down' at some time in the recovery.   Try not to worry too much about weight, but do keep trying with diet.  I managed to lose over 70 pounds (5 stone) in the 18 months before the THR operation.  This was purely by diet, as I could not exercise with OA in the hip.   I looked out for things that were low calorie as opposed to low fat, severely limited my intake of potato and bread, and reduced my portion sizes.

    Hi Beatrice,

I know how you feel, I'm into my 4th month post op and although out of pain.

feel soooo old because I can't do what I used to do, but I am trying to look forward to being more active.

i have put weight on since not being very active! So trying hard to get myself slimmer and start working out. But worried as to what to do without hurting my hip 😏

    Keep you chin up .

keep in touch with this forum it does help.
