3 month post opp labrum tear/distal clavicle

I’ve posted about this once before, but I would like to get a few more reply’s, and hear about others who have had similar surgery. This may be long winded, as I’d like to give as much details as possible.

I am 25, and a dealer in the casino business for the last 4 years. About a year to two years ago, I was having pain in a very specific area in my right shoulder, along with ALOT of clicking, popping, and grinding.

Come to find out, it was my AC joint. Several cortisone shots, physical therapy, and pain relievers later, I decided to have surgery, in hopes that this pain would go away, or get some kind of relief. My surgeon told me he shaved my ac joint, cleaned up arthritis, bursa, and any spurs I had, and also discovered I had a post labrum tear. I believe I got a couple of anchors and sutures, and was in the big sling for about 3 weeks before ditching it and beginning PT. Everything was “fine” and my ROM improved very quickly.

Well, here I am, 3 months post opp, and the pain in my ac joint area is unbearable..MUCH like before surgery. Minor clicking which I’m told is normal. And I have noticed the very large bump that was there before, is there, but minimal and still painful.

I am going on Monday, to get a second opinion, as my doctor doesn’t understand why I am still in pain. I have been referred to a rheumatologist, as I have bad cases of arthritis related diseases in my family. However, how can I possibly be in so much pain this late in the game? I’ve had a cortisone shot last month, which didn’t help. Has anyone had a similar surgery, that has experienced this, and hopefully got better?! Yes, I’m aware this recovery takes time, but to be in the same exact pain as before surgery freaks me out.

Any feedback would be great.

hey. I had the same surgery for what sounds like the exact same thing I had but on my left shoulder. couldn't lift my arm at all was so weak and in agony 24/7 had proper depression as the pain just wasnt going away after the surgery. a few months later I went to a private physio and he used a tens machine and really deep tissue manipulation to break up scar tissue and got my movement back completely... It took me a year and a half after surgery before I was completely pain free.

Hey! Thanks for the response. I’ve actually been using the Tens machine at PT, but absolutely nothing has given me relief. I can move my arm pretty good, but not without pain from somewhere. Did you feel like your pain post surgery in your clavicle, was the same as pre surgery?

I felt like my pain was sorer after the surgery along my clavicle and nerve pain all the way down my arm to my fingers and couldn't get relief. I started doing weights suggested exercises from the private physio and this strengthened my shoulder. the stronger my shoulder got the less pain I was having and it eventually stopped

Well, thank you again. And I am glad yours improved! I’m hoping I can say the same without additional surgery!

Today is a bad day, and it bothered me all night. It’s crazy that you can be perfectly fine after surgery, and have the worst pain now. I pray it gets better, but as of now, these aches and pains take me back to pre surgery. YUCK.

Hoping my second opinion doctor does an MRI Monday.

It's crazy because i was almost told to stop PT cause of the progress I was making. lol. Sometimes I wonder if they know wth is going on.

I have developed some bad elbow pain also, which was not there that much pre surgery. It's only getting worse, along with my shoulder. Hoping to get answers about that Monday also.

no problem. I really hope you get to the bottom of it as I understand completely how you feel. its sole destroying at times. I even had to get a different job to accommodate my temporary disability. good luck and will keep sending you good thoughts xxx

Oh I hope not! I miss my job so much and very much depend on my arm for it! I’m supposed to go back in 2 weeks, ha! That seems impossible. I pray for better days.

      Thank you so much!

Good afternoon i know what your going through i have had the same problem and it's now been two surgery and it is still giving me problems Each doctor i go to gives me different reasons that i still have problems I'm also told, that there is a chance that they can do another surgery but it would not help and may cause it to worsen. so what are you to do i would get more than just one more opinion because you'll find out that doctors don't agree on any thing. good luck
