3 months in and still getting physical anxiety symptoms

Posted , 5 users are following.

hi all i am 3 months in second time - 10, 15,20 and last 4 weeks on 25. i am better than i was but still have a lot of physical symptoms like shortness of breath periodically, low level background anxiety and most recently anxiety about swallowing. last night i had a panic attack as i felt like i couldnt swallow. i took a low dose of lorazepam and talked to my husband and eventually managed to get back to sleep but this morning i feel like im back to square one - have fear and dread about it happening again. I feel like this shouldnt still be happening 3 months again. it is that time of the month for me which is always hard but even still. Just feeling really discouraged. i just wish these awful physical symptoms would go away.

    Hi Tamsin,

I think because you've upped your dose a few times in the last three months, you are getting start up effects with each increase. As you've only been on 25mg for four weeks, your not only getting start up effects but probably increased anxiety symptoms also. This happens when you start citalopram, it will pass but you need to give your system time to adjust to a new dose. 😊

thanks sonia ive generally been better since going up to 25 but just still keep getting these physical symptoms which freak me out. my psych doc wants me to go up to 30 so i will do that soon and stay there for a while and see if that helps

      Hi,

I agree, I'd give 25 more time if I were you.

It is possible that one of the lower doses may have done the trick for you had you given them more time.

Four weeks isn't long enough for it to work ,see how you get along with 25, that what I'd do.

I was on 10 mg for roughly 10 years with no problems, it took me 10/11 weeks to feel good on that dose.😊

I wouldnt increase any more. My physical symptoms only got worse the higher dose I was on. I ended up coming back to 20 and have stayed here since Aug. I still get the symptoms but theyre not as bad and theyre further apart.

Stick with a dose for at least 3 months to see if you settle.
