3 months post-op pains at base of spine/coccsyx

Hi fello hippies!

I'm doing really great now it's starting to feel like a new hip at last. I can even put my own socks and lace-up shoes on again. Just one question: I work at a computer and I'm getting moderate pain at the bottom of my spine when sitting for any length of time (I get up and walk about every hour or so). It doesn't hurt so much while I'm sitting, but boy when I stand up it's like someone is stabbing me!

Anyone else had this? NB it only seems to happen when sat in an office chair or upright chair, lounging on the sofa is no problem...

Cheers,

Steven

You have very likely put your spine out and if I was in your situation would make an appointment to see a good chiropractor. I would prefer not to see a McTimoney one. Walking badly before surgery or recovery especially walking with just one crutch can cause back problems. Hope that helps. Richard

Hi, I get a bit of this. Keep doing yr exersizes and some stretches. I have to stand up slowly, stretch, then walk slowly for a couple of steps.

Everything is great. Really happy with both my hips now. I think for me its the chair angle etc.

    Good luck

congratulations good to know you are feeling good after your hip replacement it gives us all hope! I feel its taking forever to feel better! its only 7 weeks since I had my surgery but had pain a long time before my surgery. I was looking forward to getting a new hip but no where near recovered, especially at night I find it impossible to get comfortable and have to get out of bed and walk about.

Getting to your question about back pain I have this a lot but I have has three lots of surgery on my back, it was ok until I started having hip problems, I think it was due to the way I was walking, if I sit too long I also get pain its a nightmare! perhaps you should mention this to your specialist it could be short term? worth asking your doctor hope you get it sorted such a pity as you sound like you are doing great! Good luck Cyndey

    Hi Steven,

i am now nearly 11 weeks post with my THR and I started work on the 7th of January. I am sitting down all day, at least 8 hours, in front a computer too.

I was pretty good before hand and could walk short distance without any crutches and only very little pain. But since I started work I get pain in my groin and hip. Also get really bad lower back pain and not even the cocodamol work for that.

Also both of my knees really ache too.

I don't think that sitting in front of the computer is doing any good for the recovery. But I hope in time the body will get more used to it that the pain will get better and hopefully goes totally.

    Kind regards

    Petra

I worked from home after my op virtually from day one. I had bought a sort of support for sitting on, a circle with a bite out if it made in that special memory foam. It seems to work well for me.

Hi Steven. I honestly thought it was just me having this issue. I've never had any pain and discomfort like it. My coccyx started to hurt when I sat about 6 months after surgery, I have an additional length t length so thought it was that even though I wear a shoe lift until my next op. Then on my op leg straight down my bun and back of leg horrible pulling pain, my surgeon said it's my hamstring and that's connected to your coccyx do you have pain at the back of your leg? My hip feels like it's a pulled muscle and feels like it needs a click in place if you know what I mean.
