3 months post op still unable to move ankle

I broke my ankle in several places, 4 plates and loads of screws, I had my op on the 9th July and didn't receive 1st physio until 6th September at this point my ankle was as stiff as a board I wasn't given any exercises to do or advised i need to start them between my consultant appointment at the end of July and physio in Sept. I have no movement in my ankle even though I'm now doing exercises daily, Seen the consultant last week and she said I'm moving my foot not my ankle, I can now come out of the boot and wear shoes but really struggling to walk as my ankle will not bend and i just have no clue what to do, I'm convinced I will never be able to walk again.

Don't get depressed. It WILL take time. After being immobilized, your joint will be stiff. From what I have read and seen, most of the rehab is done at home but the program should be developed by your physical therapist. I had limited access to pt but found lots of suggestions on YouTube.

Poor you, I agree it is all very frightening and painful. I have found that if i massage my lower leg and foot and ankle with cream before i do ROM exercises that movement is a little easier. i have just started to weightbear in my walking boot (20%) with a shoe leveller attached to the sneaker on my good foot. Did about an hour on and off trying to 'walk' yesterday( in addition to my ROM exercises) and boy was my ankle hurting by the end of the day. Had to take pain killers and RICE in the evening. You tube has lots of good advice, I have learned alot from there, have had no PT yet. Good luck. x
