3 weeks post op..

i stopped using laxatives because did not want to become dependent on them and now my poos are so difficult to pass, like can only pass a one bit at a time almost as if my stomach muscles are too weak .

Lastly past 5 days i've had the worse night time cough, feels like something is tickling my throat, yesterday i was making strange noises which i believe were caused by chest. Ad to that i have cold/fever like symptoms which come and go, e.g feeling cold to feeling hot... excessive sweating during sleep. Not sure if its connected to surgery or just a random fever.

    Hi there,

Fybogel will not make your bowel dependable on laxatives. One sachet after your main meal. Drink at least a litre of water throughout the day.

As for the temperature, it could be connected to your surgery although the cough makes me think its a viral infection.

I'm 3 months post op and what you describe is the initial settling in period, I would suggest a stool softener of sort as you will find it painful to pass stool. I still use Fybogel as I find it helps to go. The cough etc is something totally different and i would go and see a doctor if it gets'/is worse.

      Hi,

Went to buy Fybogel last Friday, unfortunately saw Dulcoease which i tool in the past and went for that. Took that with Senekot to no effect then Yesterday had the most intense pain when trying to pass what felt like a very hard stool, nothing or just a little broken piece came out , ended up taking Movicol again. After two sachets lots of messing my pants with diariha when passing wind, over the space 6 hours i passed enough solid stools to feel comfortable again.

Will defo give fybrogel a go asap as this is not a way to live.

      Hi there,

Dulcoese and Senekot are laxatives. Fybogel is a bulking agent so acts differently.

You need to bulk out the the contents of your bowel in order to make bowel movements easier.

Throw the laxatives in the bin.

Start with one sachet of fybogel after your main meal. If that doesn't work then have a sachet after breakfast as well.

Thank you i will try to get my hands on some asap... yesterday was ok went several times today I again i have an incredibly hard stool, maybe hardest one ive felt, im leaking brown water, the poo acts like its wants to come out but just doesn't, legs are shaking when walking up or down stairs.

Ive had brain surgery before, that was successful although for a few years after things got worse before they got better and the surgery curing effect became obvious. Never once then did i feel helpless or down, but because of this i sometimes get feeling of despair . This just has a way of eating at your soul, maybe because you feel the cause of the pain and realise its only inches away from going out but wont and causes so much pain and destruption .

update. Today is the worse day. Intense pressure pain from stool, whenever i stand up it acts like it wants to go out. But doesn't. I managed to force out with intense straining, not good i know, then a few hours later a second forced itself out but now theres one very very hard causing me to sweat, pain is excrutiating whenever it causes pressure, i dont have stomach strength to pass it out, whenever i stand it makes me rush to the toilet but as soon as i sit down nothing happens. Dont want to, and dont have strength to force it out...

Not sure if to go hospital, or if to try using a finger, or to just wait have taking a movicol and will take another one later hopefully that will force it out in the next 12 hours and then tomorrow will buy fybrogel.

Feel so blessed to have my gf she booked a lovely unique apartment for Christmas but feel bad to have ruined it for her with this 😦
