3 years of unexplained symptoms

Hi everyone. Sorry if this post is fairly long.

I'm a 17 year old male and I've been experiencing severe symptoms for about 3 years.

Almost every day I feel extremely dizzy, lightheaded and fatigued, and experience random aches all over my body. My resting heart rate is abnormally high even when I feel completely relaxed. I often feel ill and feverish, but I have no actual illness and fever. I have multiple swollen lumps in my neck and my throat constantly feels tight and strained. I often cough up thick, yellow phlegm that seems to come out of nowhere.

These symptoms are so bad I find it difficult to complete basic tasks without feeling like I'm going to pass out or fall asleep. I struggle to even go outside some days.

I've had every test done under the sun. I've had brain scans, blood tests, ECGs, bone scans, ultrasounds etc. My general organ health is good, my blood levels, glucose and pressure are normal, and when doctors prescribed antibiotics for my throat and neck issues these had no effect. I've never had any tick bites so I know I don't have Lyme disease. There doesn't seem to be any medical explanation for my symptoms.

When I was 12/13, I had a patch of depression and anxiety, but this has since improved and I don't have any symptoms of either. I'm a healthy weight and have a good diet.

If anyone could relate to or offer an explanation for what I'm experiencing I'd be so grateful. I feel like I've wasted my teenage years suffering from these mystery symptoms that I can't do anything about. Thank you

    Hi there,

Just wondering if you had a trigger to these symptoms? and if you have heard of cfs/me (chronic fatigue syndrome/myalgic encephalitis) or POTS postural tachycardia syndrome. you can google them and see if you see the symptoms matching for you?

I also read something about acid reflux causing feelings in the throat?

    Hope that helps.

I'm so sorry you are going through this. Can you be more specific about what blood tests you have had? Have they tested you for food allergies?

I myself can relate to alot of this. I dont have the phlegm or achey joints, but everything else I do! I Have seen so many different specialists/doctors and have had multiple tests done. All comes back normal. Have you seen an endocrinologist? Do you have specific times that your symptoms start up or certain things that trigger them?

Hey everyone, thanks for replying so quickly! It's comforting that other people have had similar experiences.

@andrew14681, I've seen an endocrinologist and all my hormone levels are as they should be. There doesn't seem to be any reason for the symptoms, just some days they'll be unbearable while others they'll be better, no real pattern. They do sometimes seem to get better after exercise or being outdoors though.

@Beverley_01, during the time I started to get these symptoms I was quite isolated and bullied in high school, but I'm in a much better environment now and the symptoms haven't changed. I've been tested for POTS but nothing was found, and while I have occasional reflux it goes away with anti acids and my throat problems are constant. As for CFS, one of my close friends has it but she finds the symptoms get worse with exercise and for me it's the opposite. And she doesn't get the same lightheaded feelings as me.

@jessmess927 Off the top of my head I've been tested for vitamin / mineral levels, RBC and WBC count, hormone levels, various STDs, thyroid function, adrenal function, kidney function and liver function. Probably several more but I can't remember. I'm very allergic to dust but when I'm in a dusty environment I get runny/itchy eyes and nose that go away when I leave the room. My chronic symptoms go on regardless of where I am. Other than that I don't have any allergies that I know of.

    Thanks everyone!
