Teresa, I have a similar situation, in that I am 8 months post-op and still have thigh/hip pain and a bad limp, so I must still use walking aids. I have discovered that I have torn gluteal tendons which must be repaired with surgery, which will happen soon. Pain can have so many causes. I went to my original surgeon with my concerns, but he was unable to help me, so I sought out a second surgeon for his opinion and now I have a diagnosis. I'm sure you've consulted with your surgeon about this. Is it possible for you to get a second opinion since you don't seem to have gotten the help you need?

Can you tell us more? Where is the pain and how bad is it? Are you still limping? Are you on paid medication? Have you had this pain ever since the surgery? And by that I am wondering if you were ever "recovered" and pain/limp free, or if this started later on. Also, how are you in terms of mobility, are you walking or housebound?

Where to start .... numerous times I have had the need to see surgeon (or his PA) prior to scheduled visits.  At each appointment I am required to have x-rays and am always told "implant looks fine".  When I attempt to explain pain and that implant is in me and it just doesn't feel right. Surgeon's PA (whom I saw 95% of visits) stated "I think you could have a tendon rubbing on the ball joing and stated that surgeon would go in and cut tendon!  So I'm thinking .... WHAT?? YOU THINK? AND YOU WANT TO GO IN & CUT IT?   I don't think so unless I have proof that this is the problem.  I so want and need a second opinoin as I think my surgeon and his PA have absolutely no care and/or concern that surgery is not right.  After requesting copies of medical records I was surprised that the "model" of implant by Zimmer is not listed and that my records are not accurate.  There are things in it that I did not say and some of the things said to me by the PA are not in them.  Makes you wonder right??  My pain level prior to surgery was probably an eight or nine and still is but it is a different pain.  After expressing my concern about medical records inaccuracy my surgeon will not give me a refill on Tramadol and relayed I must get it from primary physician which I am in the process of doing.  It still hurts to walk, climb stairs, get into vehicle, etc..

What a difficult situation, Teresa! I assume you are in the U.S.? You might want to go to the hospital where the surgery was done and request the operative report. I got mine, and it tells everything that the surgeon and his assistants did during the surgery. It should also have all the details about your implants. This might be helpful to you. At my hospital there was an office you could go to, show your ID, sign some papers and then, about a minute later, you are handed the report. It didn't even cost me anything!

Best of luck in your search for a different orthopedist for that second opinion. It does sound like you have not been given the care and treatment that you deserve, that we all deserve! Your pain level is quite high, and you need attention now!

That is terrible Teresa ... So, you have copies of your medical records, which is good eventhough the information is not correct at some points -

I am sure you did everything you could to get this taken care of -

I can just imagine how frustrated and upset you must feel - Did you see your Primary Care Physician ? Can he/she help you get a second opinion -

I understand that PA's are very useful in routine matters but when a patient is in so much pain , it is out of their realm !!!!  and to not refill your prescription !!!!

wishing you strenght and hope you find a good orthopedic soon -

      will your insurance cover this?

      sending you light and healing
